Subject: Bike training
As a new triathlete in general and really new to biking, I am having trouble finding detailed bike workouts. I see posts saying "do intervals" or "concentrate on high cadence" or "spin". Let's assume a beginner doesn't know any of those terms or how to make an effective training plan out of them. Is there a place that has details of the mechanics of exactly what to do on the bike?

I am not expecting to place in my triathlon, so I am not at the point where I feel I want to spend money on a coach. I am trying to get myself prepared as best as possible for the couple of sprints I have registered for.

Thanks!

OK Thanks. That's what I have been doing. Just going out and riding. Trying to look for climbs and build some endurance. I was just worried that I would be spinning my wheels (no pun intended) as far as training goes.

Good to know that I am on the right track for a beginner.

However, when I am ready to pick a training plan, where would I go to learn how to train?

There is a really good BT article: "Ask the Coach: Getting Faster on the Bike" that should help.   It also says to get some basic endurance rides in before you attempt interval work.     Good luck on your cycling.

I wrote a very high level (as in 30k foot view) of interval training on the bike here

lrobb posted good info above.

Also you can follow this link and see the program I offered for BTers to increase your power threshold over 14 weeks. many have benefited from it and others are still using it and seeing positive results. ride lots, sometimes easy others hard and others long and you'll improve!

I loved Jorge's bike training program.  Great variety and gave me structure that I didn't previously have.  I did it mostly over the winter on the trainer, but I'm learning to do varying intensities like that outside too.
