Champion 4835 Eat Cheese or Die | Subject: How often do you wash workout clothes? I'll admit it, for 3/4 of the year I don't wash workout clothes after one use. They have to get funky enough that I can smell them when I'm wearing them before they go down the laundry shoot. I do generally wash them every time in the summer when I am extra sweaty. I'm I the only disgusting sleaze ball? Dammit! You can't edit the poll options. Apparently I don't know how to spell gasoline. At least I didn't go all cockney this time and call it petrol. Master 4118 Toronto | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? Somewhere in between - it's a bit of a seasonal thing - in the winter I can get away with the multiple wears before wash alot more than in the summer when it's a big sweat fest. It seems like a waste to wash something after doing a short, easy workout. But there are certain things that are a no-go for re-wearing. I confess to smell testing and such and recycling even the grosser things when I haven't gotten to laundry in a while ... okay, I am disgusting too ... |

Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? I try to keep the volume as low as possible for my wife since she does the laundry. If I can't smell it I just hang it up and let it dry. Once in a while I have to switch to every wear if the closet starts to smell. I think you get a little immune to your own stench. |

Champion 4835 Eat Cheese or Die | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? I will concede that worn workout clothes never go back in the drawer or closet. Outer wear gets hung up in the garage (draped over handlebars) under wear and other inner layers get hung on the back of the bathroom door. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? After ever use I wash them. We do probably 10 loads of laundry a week. I won't even let workout clothes go in the hamper as they smell bad. Enough of us workout daily that it makes a whole load very quickly between two of us tri training and I do double workouts 5 days a week; 3 kids with soccer 3-5 days a week. The stench... For those of you guys that don't do laundry do your own it isn't rocket science. My husband mostly does the laundry as he is kind, works from home near the laundry but I do it as well. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? I selected "every time" but sometimes I will hang them up if they didn't get too funky and wear them again after they dry out. But 2-3 workouts is usually a MAX. I guess I would average 2 workouts per item before washing. And usually that second one is something like a run or a trainer ride. Part of it depends on whether I'm home or not when I do the workouts. If I'm home they are easy to hang up to dry. If I had to shower at the gym then put the bag in my car all day...those clothes are likely shot. Bottom line...I can't stand smelling bad. I like to reuse, but don't go crazy. |

Every time I wonder if it is a serious question or a joke, and every time I am astonished to find out it's a serious question. I wash everything every time. With the exception of winter running pants, because I wear undies underneath them. Wearing bike shorts and running shorts multiple times without washing them is disgusting and how is that different than not washing your undies? As for shirts, I guess I just don't see how you can put on a completely filth-ridden, sweat-dried, foul-smelling shirt to work out in! I mean really. If it's because you don't have enough to get you through to laundry day, might I suggest going to Target and purchasing a few $9.99 Champion C9 brand tech shirts? Please??? |

Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? Outer layers during the winter get used again since the base layer(s) catch all the stank. Sports bras if I only did yoga in them. Very rarely do I recycle anything else, because they get too sweaty. I do wash a lot of stuff in the sink, if I don't have enough to do laundry but need them (like winter tights). |

Just to let you in on how gross I am. When I am working from home for multiple days, at night I take my clothes off and pile them on the floor next to the bed. In the morning I get up, sniff and put on whatever passes. Usually underwear is one day, but hey, sometimes it passes and who am I to mess with my well established standards as low as they may be. Yup, I know it's nasty, I like to say it has something to do with reducing the amount of detergent that is flushed into the lake I swim in, thus helping to maintain the water quality, but I'm really just lazy. To put everyone at ease, this is all assuming I am not going out in public. |

I do the bulk of the laundry in our house. Although my wife folds and puts away her clothes and our daughters clothes. Apparently I don't do that correctly, but that's okay with me. |

Master 3127 Sunny Southern Cal | Subject: RE: How often do you wash workout clothes? I never wash my workout clothes. Oh gosh, maybe once or twice a year I throw the cycling stuff in the washing machine. But that's a pretty unusual day. Fortunately for me and the other members of my household, my wife washes my workout clothes after every workout. Otherwise things would get pretty scary. Swimsuit, though -- never. That thing gets a chlorine bath every time I use it. Just rinse afterwards and it's good to go.

Please??? The problem with that is once you start wearing smartwool and other high quality garments, C9 feels like burlap. I should concede that the underwear underwear, stuff that goes against the goods, almost never gets reused. It does happen but only if nothing else is clean. I was thinking more like my tech t's when I mentioned hanging them on the back of the door. |

I might have an infection" or "I've never wash my bike bottle and there is mold growing inside... is that bad?" I just toss my shorts when they get moldy I know you were responding to the other poster, but I knew you weren't angry, just grossed out. Sooo, I started this thread because in the bike cleaning thread someone mentioned how cleaning your bike is akin to cleaning clothes. I don't clean my bikes so that doesn't work for me and I started thinking about how often I wash clothes. At first glance it seems like it's not all the often. Now that I am actually thinking about it, I only recycling bike shorts and goods hugging underwear if I am really desperate. Everything else is almost always washed after one or two uses with the exception being winter outerwear. As far as street clothes go, I am a sweaty guy and will usually end up changing my undershirt before dinner so if I put it on again in the morning, I've only worn if for a few hours the night before and it's going to be changed again in the evening (before my wife gets home, I have to look like I changed clothes. Again this only happens when I'm not leaving the house and just sitting in my office all day. I guess since I opened this can of worms I shouldn't be defending my nastiness, but I feel I've misrepresented myself. |
