Ever wonder how much work goes into the setup of a triathlon?  Here's your chance to find out.

The Hawk Island Triathlon group is still looking for race day volunteers this Sunday, but they also could use as many Saturday volunteers as are available.  Starting at 10am, folks will be meeting at the concession stand by the splash pad.  There will be groups assembling the snow fence around the transition area, building bike racks, and other fun tasks and will be working all day until around 7pm.    Volunteers are also needed in the afternoon for the 4-7pm packet pickup.  If you're picking up your packet anyway maybe you can come a few minutes early and stay to help.

This is a well organized triathlon and they do a great job but this year their head volunteer coordinator left abruptly and they're doing their best to make sure everything's covered.

I plan to be out there to help Saturday, If anyone else is able to help it would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe volunteers can head out for pasta afterward...

Do we need to RSVP or can we just show up?  I may be able to help, but it'll be a game day decision...

You do not have to commit to it.  Nobody will be turned away if they just show up to help.  If you know you're coming to help and want to rsvp you can via email to
Matt Cadbury, [email protected]
or Kathie Dunbar  [email protected],

or you can call (517) 374-5700.

I'm guessing I won't get there until around noon, my youngsters have a martial arts competition in the morning.

Ok...I'm not going to RSVP, but there is a 99.9% chance I'll go out to help.

I don't have anything better to do anyways.  : )

Great, thanks Kristen.  Hope to see you there, and hopefully dozens of other volunteers.

I'll see if I can extend my hall pass to help out some on Saturday.  No guarantees.
I might have to drag along an assistant-helper or two, too. (to tutu)

Kristen, thanks for the help today.  I got there just before 1pm and worked until 5:45, mostly building bike racks.

See you in the am
