Hi, guys,

I just did the Rev3 HIM in CT last weekend and it was great.  For those of you looking for other IM options besides IM-branded races, Rev3 will be putting on a full IM at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH, in September 2010.  The half was great, and I'm sure the full will be too!!  Registration begins in September.

Maybe I can talk the wife and fam into another IM next year.  They can play in the park all day while I race

Hope the wife doesn't see this thread

My kids like the idea. My husband has always wanted to go there. Maybe IMAZ will have to wait. Wonder what the bike course would be like? The blurb says run is flat but nothing about the bike course.

For those of you that did Rev3 how did you like the organization and all that of the race? I know it was hilly but the other stuff that is important in a race..on time, tech shirts, parking, those type of things. How was the vibe of the race? Finish line announcer?

The organization of the race was top notch (especially considering it was the first year). Each person had their own individual rack in transition, lots of bathrooms (never had to wait in line), registration shirt and finisher shirt and visor in the goodie bags. Awards were nice pottery pieces. Finisher medals. And for spectators the huge jumbo-tron had great coverage of the race leaders with live commentary.

Yeah, I wondered why nothing was said about the bike course. Hum.

Otherwise it looks like an awesome location for a race! While you are out riding 112 miles, your spectators can ride the rides! FUN!

If I were to ever do an IM again, I would totally look at this one. The location rocks!

I know someone from around there (actually Keyone on BT--check her blog), and she said it is all flat around there, so the bike will probably be pretty flat.

As far as the race...lots of goodies, finisher tech shirt, visor, back pack bag, finisher medal.  The announcer was Simply Stu (from the podcast world) as well as live coverage of the race by Carole Sharpless.  Great support on the course (Gu, Cerasport, lots of fruit), personalized transition spots (yes, even for the age-groupers), and free entry to the park for family and guests on the day of the race.

I took my husband and 2 boys (2 and 6), and they had a ball.  I also imagine there will be a good pro field.  At the HIM there were about 40 pros, which was very exciting.

I believe there is an overpass coming into the park otherwise it's pretty flat, and besides the city of Sandusky if it heads out into the sticks, it will be open farm country with few trees so winds would be more of a concern then hills.

Flat is what I want for my next IM after Lake Plaicd and Canada, wind I'm okay with as I ride with power and don't even have any setting for speed on my power tap. I never know how fast/slow I'm going.

If I did Sept IM I could do cyclocross national the year I age up to the 50-54 AG. Cross rules are even more weird than tri rules it is the age you are at the end of the following year. So when I'm 48 I can race in the 50-54 AG.

For those of you not  aware of Cedar Point, it is by far probably the BEST amusement park in the world.  Awesome roller coasters, great food, great hotel location all around, resturaunt, great town, everything but casinos!   If I was ready I would definately do this one, but probably still a year away!  Will they be having a half there as well?

Those interested, I would definately look at a long weekend vacation there.  Plenty to do for the whole family.   I live 30miles from park enterance, I know because by the end of summer I'm planning a 60 mile ride there and back, my goal for training.  Anyways, any questions please ask, I feel well qualified to answer anything regarding the location.  Cleveland is about an hour East right on the Lake, Detroit about 45min north-west.

I saw a show that highlighted a lot of the roller coasters at Cedar Point as being the best in the world!

Yes!!!!!!!!!, The park itself is just a wonderful experience, especially for first timers.  I think I will just have to train my off after my half mary in october and get ready for this one.  For me being so close, it's a must do, and I will kick myself if I don't.

Hmmm, that IM sounds tempting!  Am I crazy to be sitting here with a boot on (stress fracture) racing IMKY in August, IMAZ in November and already thinking about an IM in 2010?  I think I lost part of my mind when I crossed the finish line at IMKY last year!

If they had a HIM option, I would be there! And I'd make sure to take 3-4 days off after the race to enjoy Cedar Springs!

Problem with 5 kids race date is right when school starts up and all the activities are starting. It is hard to take a 5 day weekend, drive 700 miles, do an IM, and get back to hectic school time.

I'm doing a HIM Saturday and it is the weekend between last two days of school. I can't tell you how much stuff my kids have going on that adds stress to a weekend I'd rather not have it.

My husband loves amusement parks and watches all the TV shows on coasters. It is on his list of places to go. Me I don't like amusement parks..I hate Disney..but I'd be busy doing something else.

This years half was $250.  $500 a good guess on the price for the full?  Nothing posted as of yet.

It seems they are just as expensive as the official M Dot races but do some new cool things. The prize purse they give to pros hopefully doesn't come for registration fees from AGers.

OK this news very exciting for me today.  My info, I'm new to triathlon, have a schedule of 7 sprints and one olympic this year.  Was planning on a 70.3 IM next year and full IM in 2011.  I'm doing a half mary in October.

My question is:  If I started in December, would the 9+months of training be adequate to finish this race?  Key word is finish, and well enjoy the experience.  I believe I have ample time to put in, 2+ hours per day (logs aren't complete if you choose to check, I'm working on that), with minimal work related interuptions.  Can this be doable?

I wish I could give you a definite answer, but if you can pick up a copy of "Be Iron Fit" they have three 30 week training plans for the full iron distance and one is a "Just Finish" plan.  All three are suppose to be easy enough for normal folks to follow.  Might be worth a look to see if it would fit with your schedule.

With the right base level of fitness, training plan and commitment, I think so.  The nice thing about a race like this is that it will probably not sell out immediately, so you could sign up for an early season HIM and see how things go.

I was not planning on a 2010 IM distance race, but this may have just changed my mind!

This is absolutely true - Cedar Point is Mecca for roller coaster fans. Truly spectacular. Damn, I'm totally considering this.
