For usin Ohio this might be a great spot to get in an IM race:

I would love to do this, but might not be ready for it, though I will have 9 months to train for, any thoughts?

this might be a good race. I think though you will have a little bit more than 9 months to train. It isnt till Sept 12, 2010.... I was thinking about bumping my distance up next year maybe this would work since it would be at the end of the season?

I am planning a half marathon in October in Columbus, so I figure the time from that point, with some time off, up until this race.  I really am interested.

Ohh I see. Yea I am really interested as well... I am doing a sprint in sept at deer creek. which will be my 2nd ever race. ANd then I am hoping to do an oly and maybe a HIM at the beginning of the summer next year. Maybe OLY at deer Creek Next June.

Sounds like a really cool race.... I just wish I could still get my mdot tattoo....

I'm still planning a half IM next July, and IM Lake Placid in 2011, so like yourself I still want my tattoo.

I just think I'll kick myself later for not doint this.  25 min away, full IM, can sleep in my own bed.  The fact that not knowing if it will ever return, I think I just need to make the effort.  LP will still be there in 2011, but this one might not.

This is freaking awesome. No Stupid sell outs like the MDot series. No insane travle costs. No flaming hot louisville. A Lake swim. Cedar Point. Family can come and be entertained. A whole crowd of people at the park cheering finishers. Dont worry you can still call yourself an Ironman.

I wasnt planning on attempting an iron distance but the proximity and options for my family make this very irresistable. Early september should be very comfortable.

That's just awesome!  Will definitely have to keep this on my radar.  Would be cool to do the inaugural race.

My exact thoughts, and with more than a year to plan, I know I'm still a newbie but I don't think I'll be passing this one up.

I am on another site and there are some people there telling me I am crazy for wanting to do this race... Do you think I will be ok going into this race with only a Oly and maybe a half mary?

Yeah you are crazy. But of course anyone who signs up for 140.6 is crazy. This is 15 months out. That should gice you more time to get mileage and some more races in. I still think it is crazy. I am doing my first 70.3 later this year. I would like to think after that race I will be interested but I am not plunking any cash down at this point.

We're exactly in the same boat, if I'm not mistaken both of our first tri's were at deer creek 2 weeks ago.  With that being said, I'm positive its crazy, but then I go back to my original feelings:  Plenty of time to get necessary training in, and would kick myself if I miss this opportunity.  Sure 140.6 races are plentiful and M dot races are ultimately what I'm shooting for (Adam Brezovsky, you are an Ironman-  dream of hearing that.), but this may be the one and only time to have such a race, the first IM for Rev3, right in my back yard.  With the way its organized, it can truly be a family event, and not just my wife and kids.  A lot of people can share in this accomplishment with me, and I truly wouldn't have my first 140.6 any other way.

Besides, it's not like I'm looking to win or anything!

It's all about the experience, and with Cedar Point, this truly can be something amazing!

Any thoughts?

I don't think you have to do a branded ironman race to get the m-dot tatoo. 140.6 miles is the same no matter who runs the race. When I finish my first 140.6 I plan on calling myself an IRONMAN no matter who organizes the race.

Oh wow.

I was shooting for IMKY 2010, but this looks sweet. Sept in Northern Ohio sounds a heck of a lot better than Louisville in August. And my in-laws live about a mile from the park. Oh boy.

I've been debating on where to do my first IM, which I'm planning for 2010. Looks like my decision has been made!

I am super excited about this, I have to do it.  Anyone think I am crazy to try a IM distance for what will most likely be my 9th-10th race?  I just know that I will be angry with myself if I don't do it.  Its over a year away, plenty of time.

I've only competed, use that term lightly, in 2 tri's and have 5 more scheduled.  I'm doing it!, Your feelings echo mine since the time I heard this news.  Will be purchasing a trainer, and will start putting my time in in November after my 1/2 marathon in October.

The venue itself is just spectacular.  Great for everyone attending or racing.  I live only a 1/2 hour away and will spent the weekend at the park hotel!

the only thing that makes me nervous is the swim.  How do you train for a 2.4 mile swim?

Swim Lots... Sorry you left the door open on that one. Most of your time will be in the pool. Probably plan on some long swims to be ~2hrs. You should also try to find a local lake where you can get some OWS training in.

What he said^^^^^. Then, once you've finished swimming, swim some more.

Will be nice to see the course and what the price difference will be compared to an official IM event.  Can't ask for a better location though.  Course should be nice and flat and fast.

I know the first Rev3 race was about the same price as a 70.3 event, I am just hoping the long course is cheaper than an IRONMAN branded event

Course would be very flat.  Like I said previously I live within 25 minutes from the park and other than some small rolling type mini hills, the course would be flat.  Great location for the family, but excellent location for one to attempt first IM distance race.
