Pre-race routine:

woke up and grabbed a coffee and had some toast with PB & Honey
Event warmup:

Got into the wetsuit, and went for a quick swim. Was cool we had a bagpiper doing his thing before the event began. Was a gorgeous morning, little wind and we were off at just before 8am!
Swim
  • 30m 9s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

Had a good swim. Straight out and back swim. Got a little off course coming home but was right on my 30min pace. Got a little seaweedy which was frustrating. I had to stop as it was all over my left arm and I was trying to pull through it, but no dice.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Was normally where I am in the front middle of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

Wetsuit got stuck on my ankle. That took a little time. And I had some new socks. Bad idea. They were really tought to get on.
What would you do differently?:

Next time, don't mess with the socks.
Bike
  • 1h 21m
  • 40 kms
  • 29.63 km/hr
Comments:

Was a really scenic course. Rode along the lake, mountains everywhere. Came ripping around one corner, and HOLY COW - COWS ON THE ROAD!! No issues, RD warned us we may see some. Was kind of funny. I was 7km into the bike, and the leader was coming back already!! Meaning he was 26k ahead of me. Didn't take my own advise and put saran wrap on my aero bottle. I had Infinit pouring out the top on the course. Was a little rough in patches.
What would you do differently?:

Aero issue. Other than that may okay. Was a reasonably tough course.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Gave the crowd a show. Got to the dismount and hit the fron brake a wee bit hard. Did a nice endo but didn't bail. The crowd was all 'WHOOOOOOAAAAAAAA". When I recovered, I gave them the "It's alright, I'm okay" and threw my hands in the air. They liked that~~
What would you do differently?:

Nothing considering the applause I received for the endo.
Run
  • 1h 06m
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 36s  min/km
Comments:

I crapped the bed. I didn't bring my gel. Left it on the bike. I was dying out there on those hills. This is a new run course. Was very scenic but, so hilly. There was a massive hill to climb at the start which seemed to wipe me out. Lots of aid stations to water me up, but couldn't find my legs.
What would you do differently?:

Not run like I did.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with the family. Watched other come in. Jumped in the lake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run once again. I am so coming back and doing this one next year. I was really disappointed in that run. I'm sure I could have powered thorugh that run, but not having a gel was in my head.

Event comments:

Best race I have been a part of this year. Well organized, in fact started 3 minutes early!!! No aid station on bike which was okay. They said there would be 4 on the run but I think there was 5 or 6. I think some people from the community set up tables by their house and were handing out water. I already told Michelle we will be back next year. I am going to do that run again!!

I have my fingers crossed that someone has video of the endo...

Great job man, I think that bike time is fast, hard to tell since it is in some foreign language...Laughing

I love the "I crapped the bed" expression.  I'll have to remember that one.  And welcome to the Seaweed Monster club Laughing

Hey Trevor - Sounds like a fun race, maybe I will do it next year!  Thats still a good run considering all those hills you had to climb (and also considering the fact that it was a tough bike!).  Awesome swimming!
