From the tuxbro site:

SOLD OUT! - as of Wednesday, August 12 we have reached our limit of 1200 people.

Oh, and this . . .

current water temperature: 78 degrees (taken Thursday, Aug 13)

(Doesn't matter to me, since I don't have a wetsuit anyway)

Only a couple days!!!!   Got my race maps in the mail today.  Can't wait!!!   I will be wearing a black and pink tri suit.  Same one I wore in Nashville, its in my profile.  If anyone sees me say hello.  Will try to post race number once I get it.  Have access to BT through phone.  Its sad....I know :-)

The website it was going to post actual start swm times so that you would know approx when you were starting.  I didn't see it on there yet.  Anybody see something I missed?

Bid numbers are listed on tuxedo bros website now - on confirmation page. I still don't see swim start times listed anywhere though.

Alright, because I'm a spreadsheet geek, see the attached.  I can't promise you these will be the exact start times, but based on the following parameters, they should be close:

  • 30 people per wave
  • 2 minutes in between wave starts
  • bib order defines wave assignment (my assumption)

ETA: .csv, cause I couldn't shrink the .xls enough

Oh, and WTHR, one of the local stations, has a segment regarding the race.  Don't look too hard at the surface of the water.  And if you do, just know that all that grime will get mixed up diluted in the first few minutes of the swim.

As somone who will be in the first wave, I get to help mix all of that fine "canal scum" up.  Oh well, still cleaner than Eagle Creek and the Ohio River.

Picked up my packet, walked the canal, & drove the bike route.  Packet PU was very well done.  Super slick with plenty of help, and Runners Forum was on hand for those needing to pick up last minute stuff.
Canal was pretty clean- at least as clear as many Midwest lakes.  Still need to navigate a little, though 'cause its a bit more complex than the map.  There are many areas where it widens, narrows, and turns.  Also 2 or 3 fountains to steer clear of.

Bike route will take some care in spots.  Right turn from West St onto Washington is currently a construction zone with rough pavement & manhole covers.  The RR crossings (White River Pkwy N of 10th St, & Indiana (fka Stadium) at 16th St intersection) are nasty.  Most pavement is decent but there are many rough areas from east of Pershing through Lafayette Rd.  Indiana Ave is smooth &  fast, but the sharp turn onto 10th St (decreasing radius, >90deg) can sneak up on you.

Run course is a nice open lap on the promenade along the White River.

If you've got some time after the race, consider paying respects at the USS Indianapolis Memorial (near the Oly swim start) and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial (also on canal opposite the IN State Museum).

Should be a beautiful day.

Best of luck to all !!!!!

So was everyone's race?

Overall- very well-run event with plenty of volunteers, police, & water stations along the route.
Transition area security seemed good (registered athletes only). Tricky areas of ride were well-staffed with volunteers shouting appropriate directions.  Pavement was rough on some sections of the bike course, but organizers have no control over that.  I saw a number of riders with flats or mechanicals on the course.  Justifies my bias towards durable tires & reliable equipment.  Canal swim was fun.  Great weather, too, although it was getting hot for BOPers.

But I'm kinda curious about the apparent lack of enforcement of the USAT "no iPod" rule.  Saw many race-entered runners & even some cyclists wearing 'em.  During bike leg I almost got crashed by a cyclist with earbuds who couldn't hear my calls of "on your left" & drfted into my path.  Saw another female runner with buds in who could not hear a police officer's shouted warning & ran into the path of a car (which fortunately swerved & missed her).

Had a great time at the race.  The swim in the canal was fun once I got used to the slimy bottom while waiting.  Even met Batlou while waiting in the water for the start.

Roads were rough in some places, but volunteers were great about directing you around traffic.  Police suport was awesome.

The run did start to get pretty hot on that pavement with no shade.

My only complaint was just the opposite...didn't think bike area was very secure at all.  No wristbands, and I saw A LOT of people that weren't in the race in the area.  Other than that, I think it went smoothly.

Had fun!!

Great time today.  The canal was not nearly as scummy as I had imagined.  My little pod of swimmers just about swam over a duck that was standing his "ground" - kinda funny.  The canal was clearer than most lakes I've been in until the swim exit - pretty mucked up there.  All the bike volunteers were great pointing out turns, sand, rough train tracks.  I started to get really hot on the run, but mostly because it had not been hot yet this summer and I haven't run in hot conditions.  Great race, I had fun.

Definitely a fun race, and very well run. The swim course was great, and the volunteers on the bike course probably saved a lot of people (me, for one) from wiping out on the rough patches and sharp turns. I was one of the unlucky ones on the side of the road fixing a flat, probably from some broken glass I couldn't avoid running over. And yes, security in transition could have been better - I came into T2 to find 3 spectators hanging out in my rack spot - one of them was actually leaning on the rack! They did get out of the way fast Surprised.

I hope everybody had a good time!

My comments about Transition security was at set-up.  Volunteers (appropriately) stuck by rules & would not let my wife in to get my wallet.  OTOH- you may have a point about non-racers getting in later.  My transition set-up was messed around when I arrived for T1.  My helm & prescription sunglasses were knocked off my bike, & other gear was displaced.  Nothing was missing, but the mess cost me many seconds for the glasses.  I did not see anyone around my bike at the time, but......

Really fun race for a first oly. Hard to get off track too far in a canal. Got a penalty for something though I have no idea what. I didn't draft (that I know of), wore my race number, bike tag was on. Oh well, my official time was 2:43 but they can stick that 2 min its a 2:41 to me.

Have they posted results online?  I had to leave to get back to hotel to be able to take a shower before checking out, and couldn't get up to the board to see my "official" time.  It was like 10 deep up there.

Yep. They are marked preliminary (and there are alot of people who didn't register bike out times apparently.

I really enjoyed the race today. The canal swim was pretty cool because navigation wasn't an issue, plus, my wife and 2 girls were able to walk along the whole 1500 to cheer me on. Maybe you saw them? The huge, blue 2 seater running stroller? I was really happy with my swim and bike, but I kind of bonked on the run around 3.5 miles. Really struggled to get to the finish from that point. I ended up with a 2:41 I think, but I haven't seen the official results. I was on the green 1992 Specialized Hardrock. 1 more race then I get my bike!!! (hmmm Titanium or Carbon?)

Titanium or Carbon?

Ti, no question. Check out the Lightspeeds at T3, though Vern had a Ceepo Viper at their race booth today that was extremely sexy.
