Subject: Dumbest 'injury' ever

I just finished my bike ride and come inside, sit down and realize my leg is burning a little.  I look and see there are abrasions on my leg.  WTH?  Where did that come from?  So I go out to my bike and sit on it to see where this could have come from.  The only thing that could have done this was my water bottle.  So I come in and look at my water bottle.  There is a rough spot on the botter where it went skidding down the road one day.

I realize this is a pretty dumb post but just had to share this with someone.  Hope the pictures help.

~Mike

Ummmm ... yes, Mike?

Guess I can't really "hijack" this thread since there's nothing in it but I will just creatively interpret it

The dumbest injury I ever sustained (maybe not an injury in the strict sense but I really injured my body) ...

I was released from a hospital on a Wednesday with strict instructions to go home and convalesce for two weeks. (I went there because I was having difficulty breathing) ... ear infections, sinus infection, throat infection, bronchial pneumonia.

On Friday I flew to a destination marathon, which I did on Sunday.

Took me six months to recover. DOH!!!!!

LOL, now that you finally posted the story and pics!

I had a drinking-apparatus abrasion ... I had never used my Camelbak on my new bike (and different position). The damn nozzle banged and scraped against my leg every pedal stroke most of the way through a long ride, until I finally thought of tucking it into my jersey pocket. But I still wound up with little bruises and red marks on my thigh!

i was fixing up an unsed hybrid bike of my dad's, it didn't have a seat on it yet but I was putting air in the tires so I hopped on to see how it rode- shoving my feet in the pedal cages.  apparently i thought i was some sort of rock-hopping mountain biker, and i made a tight turn in the driveway on some dirt and totally bit it.
felt like an a**
especially b/c i had secretly laughed earlier in the day when my dad's GF fell over while clipped into her bike.
Karma's a b*tch.

I've had the same thing happen with my water bottles.  It drives me crazy.  One of them has a rough edge and if it is turned towards my leg, I get an abrasion on my leg like yours.

Ok, so the pix tell the story.  Dumb?  Thankfully it's minor, I'm just surprised you didn't feel it while biking.

Dumb is deciding the do the friggin laundry and falling down the bloody motherfluffer stairs and twisting the bejeezus out of your knee the day before a key brick workout 3 weeks before a HIM.

Apologies, I'm just slightly annoyed right now, as my leg is elevated, I'm chewing motrin and have a steady flow of ice being delivered by the best sherpa in the world.

Ouch - sorry to hear that!  Every time I read/hear about someone falling down the stairs I literally cringe.  I fell down the stairs five years ago and bruised my kidney.  It was a month before I could sleep on my left side again (which, of course, is the side I sleep on!).  Given that both hands were full with dishes and I was traipsing down uncarpeted stairs in my stocking feet, I guess that would be my dumbest injury ever!

Here's mine:

Years ago, at the end of an epic ride (145 miles to Yosemite with lots of climbing), I noticed my front tire looking a little low.  So, even in my dazed state, I did what all cyclist do to check how low a tire is.  I reached down to squeeze it.  Of course, usually we stop the bike first.  I did it at almost 20 mph.  No real damage to my fingers, just a minor abrasion.  It shows how bonked I was.  I felt like an idiot of course.

Dumb?  I whacked my knee on the bed frame crawling in to bed at band camp two weeks ago and it is still bruised and sore to touch.  Kids asked why I was walking funny and had to tell them it was a bed-related accident.

Dumb for me was getting run over by a guy who played college football while we were going to catch a ball in a kickball game.  I just play because they needed people, as I felt the impact my first thought. "Oh my training is going to suffer from this" As my kneel and ankle buckle and I end up with a sprained ankle just over 2 weeks before a race.

Luckily it healed with a lot of RICE and I ran my fastest run over the 4.4 mile distance. I am glad our kickball season is done!

Wow...a bed injury at BAND camp.

But seriously folks, the best camp experience I ever had was at the Hummingbird Music Camp in New Mexico. Just couldn't pass that up, though.

Before Tris, circa 2006, I tripped going up the stairs at my parents house.  A 3 hour car ride later I could barely walk on my right leg.  I blew out my PCL (posterior cruciate ligament).  Had a scope and now I do without.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Frank Costanza falls down and lands on Fusilli Jerry, leading to a visit to the proctologist (ASSMAN):

"it was a million-to-one shot, doc!"

I am sporting a gorgeous black eye at the moment. Dumb injury? Yeah. I was charging my Blackberry......it was on my bedside table. When I woke up I took it off the charger, then whipped off the covers to get up........and promptly got hit in the eye by the end of the charging cable which was stuck in the covers. Lovely. People pretend not to notice!!!!
