I was involved in an accident yesterday detailed here:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=176922&start=1

I spoke with the driver's insurance adjuster today and things did not sound promising. Just in case my gut feelings are correct and the insurance company is going to be difficult, can anyone reccomend someone I could talk to who is familiar with these matters? I want to make sure my totaled bike is replaced and all of my medical bills are covered.

In the 24 hours since leaving the ER I've seen my insurance company, the hospital, and the drivers insurance company all try to cover their financial arses. I want to make sure I don't do anything stupid that leaves me with bills. Ugh, the paperwork is almost as painful as my lumps.

I found a good resource on the web that other Mass. bikers may find helpful. Recording it here for posterity.

Tomorrow's fun includes filing the police report, follow up medical assessment, and getting the bike shop to tell me the bike is a total loss.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.  I hope you can get back to square one without any out-of-pocket expenses.  You might want to take a look at this site too, and try searching for an attorney by zip code.

Our tri team has an attorney that sponsors our team and he is an IM triathlete. He gave us some great advice on our own auto insurance that helps us in case we were in a car auto incident.

You may want to call him. I cut and pasted this from out Bay State Tri team website

I actually spoke to Andrew Fischer today (the attny for massbike.org) I was involved in a bike crash this summer. I hit a very strange "storm drain/speed bump". Never had seen anything like it, and I have been trying to get the town to at least put up a sign to warn cyclists. The town was initially responsive...but I havent heard anything in over a month. I even offered to pay for the sign.

I emailed Andrew Fischer today with the details of this accident and he called me this evening. I am hopeful that he can help me get something done to prevent further injury to other cyclists!!! He was VERY knowledgeable
