Total Time = 44m 2s
Overall Rank = 39/128
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/15
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4, hopped in the truck, drove to Cobourg. Ate a bagel with butter.
Event warmup:

A quick sprint on the bike up the street and back.
Run
  • 07m 37s
  • 1.5 kms
  • 05m 05s  min/km
Comments:

I don't think I've ever run that fast before.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up a bit more, it took a while to feel like I wasn't dying.
Transition 1
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

I hopped on fine, but stubbed my toe and failed to keep my shoes right-side-up. They dragged on the bottom and made a great scene for all the onlookers as I cursed and swore. I didn't realize these are family events yet.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting in the shoes. But seriously, less than a minute? That was awesome.
Bike
  • 19m 59s
  • 10 kms
  • 30.02 km/hr
Comments:

Great ride. I was passed once, but caught up and repassed. I kept my pace pretty high without killing myself. I don't think it could have been any better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Forty-seven seconds? Thank the small transition area for that, I wasn't that good. I was confused by the volunteers at the dismount point—they were just trying to get me off the bike before the dismount line, but I read them as saying "get the hell off and get your feet on the ground NOW!!!"
What would you do differently?:

Practice maybe?
Run
  • 14m 52s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 05m 57s  min/km
Comments:

It was fairly grueling, but I have no way to quantify this since I left my GPS on the bike. With 800m left I started to push for the finish—that was far too early. I got passed by an age grouper and a kid right after.
What would you do differently?:

Pace myself better for the finish.
Post race
Warm down:

Popped a gel and stretched my IT band

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training in the run. I'm really slow.

Event comments:

Being my first tri/du, I have little to compare this to other than the car racing I did in a past life. But I came away very impressed with the organization and the people involved. The series organizer John Salt was very apologetic about having to cancel the swim, and was very detailed about why he came to the decision. Overall I'm very happy.
