If people would stop signing up for races half a year out.. I could sign up 3 days before a race like I like to.

I'm doing this race for sure in 2010. First of all it's 2 miles from my place, 2nd it's perfect timing from Lone Star Oly. So I can workout out any cobwebs before Galveston. I'm going to try and get Aaron to change the course a bit. Was going to meet up with him this weekend, but I'm in colorado.

There is a certified 5k/10k course right there that's a waste not to use!

I am planning on the Gateway Oly and the Lonestar Half... (the kick-off HIM for my 2010 season - then BSLT & then Longhorn).  I had intended on racing LS the last two years and things just didn't pan out... no missing it for 2010 ~ I am aging up too!  Looking forward to the good times in Galveston with y'all!

fattyfatfat - 2009-09-18 8:28 AM yeah now worries.  speaking of budgeting, you probably saw my post on the mg...you can't book a hotel at moody gardens online now but if you call there you can.  i did yesterday, same rate as last year, 159.

I'm still thinking beach house...  If my wife will get off her butt and find one!  We will all need a place to party afterwards- right???

you should get it for two weeks so everyone on this thread can crash there for both races.

What, do you think I am made of out cash?  The one I could afford for two weeks would be one over on Bolivar... 10 telephone poles sticking out of the sand with some plywood on top...  Ike really brutalized that area

just rented a big house for a bunch of friends of mine for a weekend in early oct.  used VBRO.com.  pretty good selection of houses/condos to rent if you're serious about it.

KeriKadi - 2009-09-17 4:14 PM I agree.  I think the Gateway Oly would be a bit too intense for me.  Maybe I'll do the sprint and LS Oly as Fatty suggested.

I have a sitter for this Tuesday.  Brothers anyone???

Keri - are you doing Lonestar?  That would be sooo awesome.  I am coming down to do the HIM - my first!!!!  Registration begins in T-13 days....

If all goes well LS will be my first Oly!  It will be great to see you again Andy!

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for discussing our race! We are really excited about this race and I just wanted to logon to tell you a few things in regards to some of the comments I've been reading.

1) As of now...it will be a boat start.

2) This race is on this date this year because our original plan of having it at the end of April had to change when Lonestar moved to the end of the month. In 2011 we may or may not remain at the beginning of April. We're going to talk to Keith and see what his exact plans are. We want to work closely with Lonestar so that we're both able to put on our races and not hurt the numbers at either race. We want to keep them far enough apart so that all of you can do them both and be as successful as possible.

3) Although Gateway will be competitive and most likely offer a large enough purse in 2011 to draw a fairly large pro field that doesn't mean it's not family friendly. With all the things to do on the boardwalk (amusement park, games, food, & boats) the Gateway to the Bay is about as family friendly as you can get. Our 2ND year in 2011 will also have a kids mini triathlon. We are already planning out long term.

Memorial Hermann will be the title sponsor this year and their help together with the AMAZING city of Kemah and the Boardwalk is going to help make this first year event a HUGE success. Please help us spread the word. Have everyone visit www.onurmark.net and www.onurleft.com for all the information about the race and training you could possibly need. Please email me with [email protected] or call me at 832-334-6362

Thanks for your continued support, see you all soon,

Aaron Palaian

For you compulsive planners, Lone Star will be April 1-3, 2011 and April 13-15, 2012....

We plan waaaaaaaaayyyyyy in advance with Moody Gardens and the City of Galveston. We also have to work around Easter, which is the reason the race is so late in the month this year. Already have the contracts.

Expect some great new additions to Lone Star this year. Heading to Galveston next week to meet with everyone.

They've fixed the road on the other side of the pass, so we'll finally be able to do the 1 loop bike for the Half Iron. We've already gotten the approval, and the road looks great on the other side.

We've also been considering a major Half Marathon in the fall at Moody Gardens/Galveston. Any thoughts on that????

Very cool.  Are you thinking the same course as the HIM?  Or something like out to Seawall down to 25th St and turnaround somewhere in the Strand.

We have the harra(http://harra.org) fall series that starts in October. It has a 10 miler(also another 10 miler the same weekend) and a half marathon in October. Then a 25k in November and a 30k in December. Just something to consider if planning it.

It'd be a 1 loop Half Mary, using the seawall and strand
