Subject: First IM/Full distance

I am looking for advice/recomendations for my first full distace/IM.

I live in Austin, and would like to do an event in 2010.

I don't care about the destination, loops, scenery. My hip hates hills.

Anyone care to recomend a race that I can enter (MDOTs seem tough to register for).

How about that Redman in OK?

Thank you

Only M Dot races you can enter for 2010 without paying extra to enter via Community Fund are ones that have not occurred this year as the rest are full. That gives you two US options IMFL or IMAZ. Both you would need to register in person or on-line the day after this year's race to be sure you get in.

Both are pretty flat and both are in November.

I did Redman for my 1st IM and had a fabulous experience. You might look up my race report. I think the course is very beginner-friendly and the distance from Austin is not bad at all.

Louisville is still open for 2010 and is a great race.

I'd just like to raise my hand and say that we'd love to host you down here in NZ, but our Ironman is in March. So, 2011 might be a better bet.

It's a hike for you, but the race is held in one of our most beautiful tourist-attraction towns, with a spectacular lake with mountain views, a relatively flat bike course and lovely run which follows the lake for most of the time.

Give it some thought; might be a way to get a cool vacation out of it too!

What is the differnce between an Ultra distance triathlon and an Ironman triathlon if the distances are the same? Is it a sanction thing or something else along those lines? I am new to the sport and curious.

Thanks for all the thoughts.

Would love to go to NZ, but with two kids total trip might be pricy, unless we could all stay at the race directors house

Been to Mexical 4 times, and have had the REVENGE 4 times.  The last time I went I took a case of water in my suitcase......

I think I will go long stateside.

Cedar Point is always an option!  We would love to see you there.  Mostly flat on the bike and run!

When/If my time comes to do the Ironman I think it will be in NZ after looking at those pictures... I suspect a 4 week trip would be in order to make the most of it. Maybe 2012...

I have heard good things about the REDMAN races. I will be out there next summer doing the full distance aquabike.
