New to the sport but would like to get something that would be good for a couple of years.  I have a mountain bike Raleigh M-55 that I have hooked up to a MAG trainer. I have a commuter type bike a Trek 7.3 FX.  I have seen a few bikes on bikesdirect.com that are interesting under $1,500 but not sure what I am really looking at.  So any inout would be appreciated

Check out the Felt S32. It is a dedicated tri-bike, but targeted towards the entry level triathlete. I have one and it's a great bike. The stock Shimano wheels could stand to be upgraded but are perfectly adequate for me in the meantime. I've used it in three races so far and placed 5th overall in the bike split during my last one, so the Felt is more than a capable performer. Since I got it I've had the opinion that it will go a lot faster than I will.

I was originally looking at the BD Motobecane Nemesis as its $1000 price point was quite appealing. I wound up picking up my Felt for the exact same money (previous year's model) and had the bonus of receiving it assembled and having the LBS support for fitting. The two bikes spec'ed out nearly the same with the Ultegra/105 mix. The Felt's frame is a little easier on my eyes, but that's a personal preference.

I personally have to problem with purchasing from BD, but in my case the Felt was a better decision. Once I upgrade the wheels, I really don't see myself needing another bike for a long, long time.

In the $1700 range but a Cervelo P1 is a great option.  Ultegra components and quality overall package. Probably find a 2009 for a little less as the 2010's roll out.

In that price range for a new tri bike take a look at Felt, Cervelo, Blue, and Kestrel. With the first two probably being your best buy.  Don't forget that a nice bike that doesn't fit well is a lousy ride.  Get the bike that fits the best.

I mean to say in my above post that "I personally have no problem with purchasing from Bikes Direct." But apparently I do have problems with typing.
