Sounds good to me.  I post all my workouts on my log, to me its an easy way to be accountable and have others see what you have been doing.

On a side note, anyone doing the resolution run in East Grand Rapids on the 31st?  I haven't signed up yet but I'm sort of planning on doing it.

I'm in for the res run. You still planning on going Craig?

Yeah - I would totally be up for meeting at some in-between locations to do a couple training runs/rides. I am not starting my tri- training until January - it's just too crazy right now with all the holiday stuff.

I'm joining the GR Running Club's mentor group training for the Riverbank 25k.  They meet every Saturday at 8 a.m. at John Ball Park Zoo.  We are just starting so only a couple of miles to start.

Anyone want to join me?

I'll be wearing a black cap, blue jacket and black pants with white stripes.

Hope to see you there.

I run with a group called Mars Hill Runs. It's based out of the Mars Hill church in Grandville but you don't have to go to the church to run with us.
We run in EGR on Monday nights at 6pm, Tuesday nights from the church at 6pm, Thursday is a girls only run from a members house in GR and Saturday "long run" is hosted by people in the group so it changes location every week.

Anyone is welcome to come and run with us at any time.

In May I'll start training for another 70.3 so I would LOVE to have some people to ride with. But for now it's all about dropping weight and training for the 25K.

Hey..thanks gojogo for mentioning the Grand Haven swim clinics.  I was lurking around here last weekend and came across this thread.  I registered this week.  Saw the post too late to get to the first class but I'm looking forward to Sunday.

I did the sprint GH Tri last year and was ready to do the Millenium Tri when it got cancelled at the last minute, but those have been my only tri experiences.  Looking forward to more this year!

Anyone up for an 8 miler tomorrow morning around 11:00? I think I'm going to see if the White Pine is manageable. If it isn't, we are just going to run on the roads.

Hi everyone.  I am new to triathlons as well and just started training about 4 weeks ago.  I live in KALAMAZOO area and would definitely like to form or join some sort of training group.  If you are in the area please let me know.

Thanks!
Adam

Would love to hear how the class went.  I'm wishing I would have signed up, but the family schedule is a little overbooked right now.  Have fun and tell Katie hello.

I think this swim clinic will be a great step in the right direction for me.  I'm fairly strong in the bike and run disciplines, but have never really trained for swimming.  Which is sort of ironic because I believe I could call myself a Great Lakes waterman.  I do lots of paddling of various vessels, surf, kiteboard (sort of), spend a lot or time on the big lakes and on the canadian rivers north of the UP.  But I have no freestyle stroke.

Katie has good energy and nice pace and a batch of drills that I'm sure will get me some technique.  I'm looking forward to the next few weeks.

Continuing to run and xc ski for some run/ski dualthons and a half-marathon in Feb.  I'm pumped right now for 2010!

Welcome Arianne!

There is actually a fairly large contingent of us tri geeks here on the lakeshore.  The only formal team that I know of, and happen to belong to, is out of Cross Country Cycle in Holland.  Great group of guys of various backgrounds.  We have some uber-studs (NOT me!), rookies, and just about everything in-between.

We are doing Saturday afternoon (2:00) trainer rides at the shop.  All are welcome.  We do at least weekly group rides outside when the weather starts to cooperate.  Group runs start in the spring too.

I'm currently training for Boston and do 99% of my runs before most are out of bed.  I'm always looking to share the love if anyone is interested.

As for swimming, the GH high pool, GH YMCA, and Spring Lake Aquatic Center are options.  Kris Thibault and her crew do a great job with the classes at the high school noted above.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Your alive! How's the Boston training going? I've got my wife Jen talked into joining me for a 70.3 this year. Pretty much the same drill for me as last year. 5/3 in may, trying to go under 2 hours. Lake mac, Johan's, Tri del sol, and the Kuparisari 70.3 in the UP. Should be a good year. you going to be up for lake mac this year? Irish jig is probably too close to boston for you, right?

Hey Adam--

I'm in Kzoo as well.  I'm not doing tri's, as I hate swimming, but do a few duathlons and a ton of cycling.  You might want to take a look at joining Trikats in Kzoo if you haven't already.  The winter swim clinic just filled up, but there are weekly long runs and Wed/Sat spin sessions that take place at AE Bike (Saturday is a brick w/a run afterwards).  Great group to hook up with.  There's always something happening.

Thanks Jason!  I will look into them.    Do you have any duathlons planned for this summer? Maybe some in the Kalamazoo area?

There's a possibility that I'll do the Three Rivers duathlon and maybe the Dunes Du, but outside of that likely not any others. I've got about 25-27 cycling races planned on the calendar for the season (counting cyclocross), which is going to dominate my spring/summer/fall. Not to mention that my wife will be having our first baby in late May or early June, so I'll have a funky, but awesome, summer. If you haven't raced Three Rivers before you ought to check it out; it's a cool course and well-organized. Emmanuel, the organizer, is also a Trikat and a cool guy.

Just checking in to see if anybody is doing any of these road races coming up...

Kent City Ridge Run 15K/5K - March 27

Striders Saturday Classic 10 Mile - April 17

I am planning on doing both and then the Riverbank 25K.  It has been a looooong winter and I am ready to race!

I'm doing the Kent City Ridege Run 15k(it's a hilly course), the Riverbank 25k and a few random 1/2 marathons.

I'm looking for a good marathon to run in mid to late June through August.  Any suggestions?

Riverbank for sure. I may look into the other two. A hilly 15k in March sounds miserable. Count me in.
Also doing the group 10 mile training run at the Y this Saturday.

I think last year it was a cold slushy sloppy mess too.  The striders 10 miler has some good hills on it as well.   I did the Striders one last year...it is well run.

These will be good pace runs for the Riverbank if you do not feel like "racing" it.  I think they are only $15 to $20 with a shirt.

I'm not in for any of those.  I will be doing the indoor tri at the Grand Haven Aquatic Center next Sunday.  I'm also thinking about Rock-n-roll 1/2 in Virginia Beach.

Hello! I am very new to the whole Triathlon thing. I decided it would a great way to challenge myself further. I recently lost 80 lbs and have plateaued so for me this is a huge step forward.  I plan on doing a tri this summer, haven't settled on one yet.  I am located in northern ada, near cannonsburg, but I train at GVSU.

Welcome to BT, and congrats on the 80 lbs! There is a great group of people here, both in and out of west michigan, so stay close to BT. For your first Tri, I recomend Reed's Lake in early September. It is a busy race, and some may complain about a congested bike, but it seems to be beginner friendly. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions.

Reeds Lake is nice but as posted it can get a little hectic. Seeing where you're from you should look into the Bostwick Lake tri. it's July 3rd. http://www.bostwicklaketri.com/
Nice small race and very laid back. Great race for a first race.
