I don't think Reeds Lake is a super friendly first time triathlon.  Its very big, the swim is fairly congested and there are cut-off times to deal with.

I would recommend Millenium Park as a good first time triathlon as its shorter and a flat course.  I also think Hawk Island in Lansing is a very good first time triathlon.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the GR Running Club has an 8 mile run this Saturday from Robinette's Orchard on 4 Mile and East Beltline.  The run starts at 9 a.m.  The run is part of their Riverbank Run mentor training group but is a charity fundraiser this week.  $2 donation requested.

More details here if you'd like.

Hope to see you there.

I'm suppose to do a 30 miler on the bike Sunday.  Haven't taken my bike off of the trainer yet.  Maybe it's time.  How long is that Muskegon-GR tail again?

Kelly - It is about 25 miles one way from Muskegon to Marne.  It is very flat and you have to stop every mile at a road crossing which annoyed me (only did it once).

I am thinking about hitting up Lakeshore Drive (GH to Holland) on Sunday assuming we do not get dumped on all weekend.

RR crossing does not sound like fun.  I love Lakeshore.  Maybe we can ride together.  At least at the start.  I'll try to keep up.

That works for me...how about meet at the High School parking lot and take off from there?  I am probably going 40 miles but its out and back so you can turn around and head back when you are ready.

Congrats on the jump to Tri's!  I highly recommend the Millenium Park Tri in August.  We got rained out last year, but a great event to be your first.

Last summer was my first "tri season".  I did TRI INDY OLY, Reeds Lake and the Xterra Off-Road TRI.

I train at MVP alone but would welcome a group setting sometime.  I have met alot of the BLINK members and while a little intimidating everyone has been super nice when I've talked to them.

Hope to meet / see some of you out at some great WMI events.  IRish jig this Saturday!

MVP in Rockford?  If so, I'm in your neck of the woods.  Always looking for someone to train with for the bike/run.

How'd the ride go last week? I've been traveling a lot, so not biking as much as I should. did get out twice last week though. Looks like the weather has ended biking for a few days anyway. Hopefully it clears up soon.

Hello

I live in Spring Lake and started with duathlons in '08 and did a few spring triathlons in '09.  Just came across your thread.  There's a women's triathlon training group in GR, "real women tri".  I know someone who is involved with the group, but it's too far for me to drive, personally.  I live in SL and typically do my long run on Sunday, long ride with Rock N Road on Thursday, short runs in the morning, and a couple of shorter bike rides during the week, around 6pm.  I'm trying to throw in mini brick on Tuesdays.  Let me know if your interested in joining sometime.

Other thoughts:  I have a friend who started a bike ride in Muskegon for women.  No drops.  I think it's Tuesday nights.  I can't make it up there by then.  It's real laid back, more of a chance to get miles in than speed work.  Email me if you are interested in her contact info.  Also, Loose spokes has time trial rides on Tuesdays beginning after Memorial Day.  12 miles fast as you can, they log your times for you so you can measure your progress.

I hear Shoreline Sport and Spine may start a group in April, but so far haven't seen anything advertised.  It would include a swim clinic.

Greg Gould, formerly of Gazelle and Running circles has a running group.  They meet and Shoreline S&S Saturday Mornings at 8am and Wed at 6pm.  I did this last year and it helped a lot.  Not doing it now, I didn't want to pay to run anymore.

I thought the Fremont tri was great for a first time, and it's only $20. e

Three Rivers was also good.  It's my home town, plan on doing it again.  The OLY has a killer bike ride.  I did the sprint and it wasn't too bad.  The swim was especially good for me b/c it's very calm, warm by August, and it's a wade start, meaning everyone isn't running like a herd of cattle.  That freaks me out.

I thought Reeds lake was great.  I was so intimidated BEFORE the race.  I had never swam 800m.  In fact, I just leared to swim and was scared to death.  I found the race to be wonderful and anything but intimidating.  Very well run.

Well, enough babbling.  Good luck and hope to see you around.

I workout at MVP in Rockford, that is where I do my swimming training right now.  I did a indoor tri at MVP Jan 24th this year, that was my first.

I plan on doing the Bostwick Lake Tri, Millenium Park Tri, and Reeds Lake Tri this year.  I also plan on trying a 1/2 marathon in September, which is the week after the Reeds Lake Tri.

I am married with 2 kids and work full time, so my schedule can be a little wierd quite often.  Usually I try and swim around 6AM, then try and run and bike outside when its decent out.  I have been training by myself since the start of February.

If you guys do a long ride on the weekend, post it here, maybe I can join you.

Looks like a good weekend for a bike ride.  I'm probably going to do just an hour on the bike, but I'm not sure when.  I've got a zillion things going on right now so my ability to plan for it is out the window.  Once my life settles down a bit, I'd like to plan for a bike ride.  I'm behind on my bike training and I'm certainly not speedy.

Any interest in riding the Muskatawa Trail on the 17th or 18th? I'm looking at probably 1.5 hours on the bike total. I know the Tri-del-Sol is that Saturday, but I'm so far behind in my training that I'm skipping it.

Post or PM me.

I would love to join you, but Saturdays are bad for me in the morning, since my kiddos have swim lessons.  I'm going to do a bike/run brick from my house today.  If you ever do this on Sundays let me know, or just keep posting about your Saturdays and i'll try and join you one of these weeks.

What time are you going?  What kind of speeds will you bike and run at?  Avg mph on the bike and per mile pace on the run?

I was planning to just ride in the afternoon but I'm in need of a tempo paced brick...

Sorry I did not see this last night. We'll be there at 8. I'm planning on about 16-18 mph on the bike and about 9 min/mile for the run.
