Howdy
I am flying out from balmy Ohio for the Rose Bowl. I will be staying with an old  college roommate. He lives a few minutes from LAX near the beach. He isnt really exercise inclined so I am looking for running locations within 1.5 hours of LAX. I would love to run in the mountains or see some scenery that I dont get in Ohio. I am not that big of a running by the beach fan so other than that please point me in the right direction. I want to get in a 60-90 minute run a couple of times.

Guess I can't help you.  I was going to suggest running along the beach.  Catalina Island is clear off the coast and at sunset the ocean looks beautiful.    Hope someone suggests somewhere pretty to run for ya!  Have fun!

Oh, you gotta hit the beach!

There's a paved path that runs along the beach from Redondo all the way up to Playa Del Rey, so if you're in the El Segundo/LAX area you can either go north or south.

My suggestion is to go to Sycamore Canyon, which is on PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).  I have done a couple trail races there and if you have clear weather, and you should, the views are spectacular.  It doesn't get any better.

Well, since you will be around the Rose Bowl...why not park there and run up into the neighborhoods around there?  Great hills and if you head north you will views as well up in th hills.  Houses are beautiful.  Driving to the beach from Pasadena for a 90min run is a chore...unless you really want to see the beach it's not worth the effort.  And it's all flat.

thanks for suggestions -
I ended up doing a very wet double muddy trail run at Temescal Canyon on the 30th (it never rains in LA.....right)
I also ran part of the back bone trail up and around Sandstone Peak (Mt Allen). That was awesome - beautiful day, sunny 65 degrees. I then drove back down to the PCH and had fish tacos and beer at Neptunes net and watched the surfers and bikers.
