out of curiosity, whats the feeling on endurolytes here?  waste of time and meaning less, or good for cramp prevention?  just so I know what to expect

I like other electrolyte products better, mostly because Hammer will not disclose who does their manufacturing and since they have had issues with athlete's testing positive for banned substances I do not trust them.

and I know too much about the supplement industry (consult)

as a diabetic you have to be even more careful as you could have huge shifts quickly and so for you in addition to an INCREASED infection risk from IV, you could also end up with kidney damage, or in a coma from IV fluids

aquagirl - 2010-01-29 7:18 AM Has anyone ever volunteered in one? I am wondering what sorts of horrors await me at IMLP.............

Aaaah the med tent. I would say I have fond memories, but quite frankly there are a couple I don't really remember much at all.

to the side discussion, I have some friends who are special forces and seals and I have seen them bring an IV to a wedding, party, etc for the next morning. They plug themselves in and whamo! hangover gone in a snap. Maybe the true cure for the hangover is a government secret and is stored in area 51.

You beat me to it...I was all excited to tell you guys all about how I knew a Navy flight surgeon who was infamous for bringing an IV along on a port call and administering it to himself in the admin so he could keep drinking...apparently it's a Navy thing...no surprise there...

kinda reminded me that quote from anchorman..."i don't know if you know this, but I'm kinda a big deal"

Well, you're new here.

But it's not me you should be listening to in this matter. I'm not a Doctor. If you stay around long enough, you'll know who's who. You've been given some good advice by people I know and respect. It's a community, sometime it's better to ease your way into it.

I was more asking about the practice of taking salt for cramps?  You know, the debate about how much (if any) dehydration and lack of sodium leads to cramps.

I figured that was a hot debate on here.

As far as the needles go, I think i'm probably more likely to end up in the hospital from the events I am participating in (cycling and running) than an IV.

in all seriousness, I do appreciate the feedback.  its definitely something i consider and will have to keep in mind

Lack of fitness leads to more cramps than sodium depletion, IMO.

IV's are so lame.  I watched Bear Grylls give himself an enema with "dirty water" on a raft in the middle of the ocean.  That's the HTFU version of hydrating.

And a tasty treat you have been. Our bark is worse than our bite...except for Derek, he's just plain ornery.

Yep, she's very cool, I met her in 2008 at ZOOT's Team Camp and later that year in Clearwater.
