Deeetroiiiit  mar-a-thon!

How is it going?  What is the training plan everyone is following?

I am hiring Jeff Galloway to be my coach du eto my tendancies to get injured and burn out during marathon training.  =)  This will be my 3rd marathon, but hopefully my happiest!

Glad you asked!  It will be my first full mary Smile  I plan to cut tri season short by late July and follow a training plan for about 11 weeks.  The online pace calculators predict my pace to be around 8:15's based on my last half mary time but I think that sounds fast for a full!!  My goal is just to finish without walking!!

I believe I'll be back this year.  Last fall was my 1st full marathon.  I do the Bayshore full marathon in 23 days.

In for the 1/2.  No Marathon for me yet, I want to enjoy a full super competitive summer of tris without knee.

In for the half.  I'm running the full at Chicago the week before.

I think I will be doing either the half or the full (which would be my first.)  I have a half marathon in June, and after that I will reassess to see how I feel about doing a full!  I will likely be following the FIRST training program, perhaps tweaking it slightly.

I should be in!  After Steelhead 70.3 in July I plan on focusing almost entirely on my running.  It'll be my first btw.

I did the full last year and am not sure if I am going to run it again this year or some other fall marathon. Overall it was a great marathon for my first. It was cold (~30 F) but it was clear and sunny so it didn't feel to bad. The route goes over the bridge to Canada, which is not bad since it is early on. Coming back through tunnel kind of sucked because it was cold entering, the tunnel was hot and clammy making me sweat, then the nice blast of cold air exiting the tunnel by the Renaissance center made for a quick chill, but the people cheering takes your mind off it! There is good support from aid stations, people, bands, and school bands/clubs to help keep your morale high. The only stretch that did get a little boring was from mile 13 - 19 since there is not a lot out there. Then you run onto Bell Isle, which can be windy, but was not, and that was kind of a cool experience. Finally you head back to the mainland and finish at the free press building.
I use the FIRST training program and set my training runs for a <3:10 and finished with no problems and felt good the whole race. It is really a cool event and I encourage anyone to do at least the half, but 26.2 is where its at! Flat, fast, course with some good Detroit character anyone would enjoy! The only thing that was lame was the tech shirt because the light gray color I thought was ugly and the logo could have used some work but all in all it worth doing.

Didn't it finish at Ford Field a few years ago?  From what I gather looking at last year's course map, it seems like it doesn't anymore.  Too bad they changed it, I would love a marathon finish at Ford Field!

I'm going to plan for the full.  It'll be my first.  Anyone know if there is a good plan to bridge from HIM to marathon? My HIM is in September.

Don't know if I'll be racing as IMFL is November , but if the coach says yes, I'll probably do the half, if the coach says no, I think I'll volunteer.

Not sure if it did before , but it did not finish at Ford Field last year.

It did use to but now it does not.  In my humble opinion it was an improvement.  My first and only mary and it SUCKED to go down the sprial tunnel at the end (OWIE) and then have to finish on the field with NO food or gatorade (only water) and have to walk back up the stadium stairs to get to the refreshements.  It is much better (and flatter) now.  Thank goodness.

Yep, it kind of snuck up on me.  According to the plan I've been following some of the time, I need to run 20 miles Sunday, then taper.  I have not done the necessary running to be confident at all this year but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Same here.  My running hasn't been as consistent as I'd like lately, but I'm feeling confident.

I'm staying at the Ren Center the night before...how about everyone else?  I would have preferred the Doubletree because it's really close but I didn't reserve soon enough.
