I'll have my Cedar Point Rev3 finisher shirt on. Spoken like a true IRONMAN!! Hey Coop, when are you heading to the Expo? I'm heading down there today. I'll probably take off a little early from work so I can beat some of the rush hour traffic. |

Extreme Veteran 473 Chelsea, MI | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread I waited by Cobo Joe's from 6-6:30 then I got paranoid I wouldn't have time to and get my spot so I bailed. I'm really sorry everyone. I was happy I did it beacue the line at the pora hell was huge. How did everyone do? I sucked. I had to walk during my half marathon.........I wanted to be under 2 hours, but my lack of training is my only excuse. I ran 2:04 and some change. The weather was great, but I should not have worn a long sleeve shirt. I hope everyone else did great. Maybe I'll see you on Halloween. I promise I'll wait longer that day wherever we choose to meet. |

Expert 950 Ann Arbor | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread I had the learning experience of a lifetime to say the least. My goal was 3:30 and I started in the 3:30 pace group. It quickly turned into a porta-potty relay. I had to modif my entire game plan around mile 16. By 18 all my legs muscles started to cramp up. I walked all of Bell Isle until after the bridge when a friend caught up and she convinced me to run with her. We struggled to the finish and eventually made it! 26.2! |

Extreme Veteran 682 Canton, MI. via Detroit | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread I was a bit late because of poop issues at the hotel, I know TMI. I ran a 4:19:53 marathon. Not bad for my first and I'm an old fart. I had to yell "Go Green" at the last few water stations. I was not sure which one was the right one. Each time I had to explain myself. I had fun! |

Veteran 297 Michigan | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread If you sucked then I did right along with you Chris. Worst of my three halves ever completed - by six minutes! I also walked and a lot, like every half mile for like 30 sec from mile 9 to the finish. 1:56 and some change. Too much drinking and eating and a lack of training for me. One long run a week and playing soccer once a week just didnt cut it. Well maybe I can use this as some motivation. |

Expert 994 Clio, MIchigan | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread Great Job everyone. I really struggled out there, came it a 4:34. Not so happy with the time, but it was definetly a learning experience. My body is really hating me this morning. My foot feels like if I cut it off, it would feel better. RunnerGirl, loved the tutu and tiara, i'm going to target to get an orange one for halloween! |

Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread Sounds like a lot of of us were unhappy with how we did - count me in that group. I ran the half at just a hair below 1:52. I was target for my goal pace of 8:00 per mile at the start of the tunnel and fell apart after climbing the hill out of the tunnel. It was a beautiful day and if there is one positive to my run I finally conquered getting the water at the aid station while in stride and drinking without a huge mess while running. Quick question - everything I read said the race started at 7:15....when did they switch it to 7:00? My brother-in-law and I started further back than we hoped because we were trying to get in the corral to late for the adjusted start time. |

I heard her sort of make a loud noise as she was falling and turned around. I saw her fall and it looked like she was having a seizure. We all called for medical help. Kl and I thought of her often throughout the race and really hoped she was ok. She looked young...20's or 30's. I'll be thinking of her and her family. Glad to hear I wasn't alone. Master 3022 | Subject: RE: Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon : Official Thread There is an interesting article on MSNBC.com today about the dangers of Ibuprofen use before and during running/endurance events. We all know we shouldn't mix the two...aparently it is a potentially deadly cocktail. Besides the kidney related issues it also increases blood pressure and in some cases could result in heart stress or more. I kave no idea why the woman collapsed yesterday and I hope that ultimately she recovers...but as we see events like this I think we should also make sure we are training and competing in a healthy fashion. |
