Kevin I think you might be right. According to the site, the temp was 79 degrees on Sept 16. That seems low to me, but maybe they're sticking the thermometer deep into the inky darkness to get a temp. Anyway, all the rain and cooler temps could easily bring it down that last degree. So now I have to go repair my wetsuit... |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread Hey All, Any one want to give advice on my race wheels? Option 1- HED 3 rear and stock bontrager 28 mm on front. Option 2-60 MM front and 80 MM rear tubulars (Gigantex/Equinox carbons rims with sapim aero spokes) Have ridden both setups, but never used either in a race. I know the deep rims are supposed to be faster, but am not sure about tubulars. I have fix a flat goop just in case. |

I know the deep rims are supposed to be faster, but am not sure about tubulars. I have fix a flat goop just in case. Maybe I'm stating the obvious, and if so, I apologize. Here's how I'd think about it: Are you comfortable changing a flat tubular? If so, go with those. They are almost definitely faster. If not, are you willing to risk hanging out on the side of the road for a while? If not, go with Option 1. |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread I definitely like the deeper option BUT if you aren't ready to change a tub then well are you ok with a dnf or waiting for support?? Not that it matters but I'm running a wheel cover with PT rear and 808 up front... Well the van is packed---first time traveling to a race with the family (and bringing the inlaws too)--the bike was the first thing in though---is that wrong?!!? Leaving in the am... |

Yeah I get along with my in-laws too so.... As for the meet-up....I say we shoot for something before the meeting/beginning of the meeting---I'm planning on doing packet pick-up tomorrow so maybe I can figure out a place to meet just outside the room.... |

Good idea Skippy74 , about scoping out a place tomorrow. I like the before hand meeting idea too. Hopefully, internet will work in my hotel room so I can find out where! I called Ruth Chris to see if I could get one of those race pasta meals carry out. They said no. So, I'm going in search of food right away after the meeting, someplace near my hotel. My hotel is about a mile from the race site, and there are plenty of eating spots there. Ocean Sands. I haven't yet figured out about getting to the race on the morning of. I was thinking I'd bike in, but then realized I won't have my bike! 1 mile seems too far to walk. Hate to get into traffic jams in my car. Anyone have a plan for that? |

Carol---hmmm how to get there---guess I should think about that......... |

Whenever it rains hard here, Jordan lake is extra icky to swim in. I haven't spent time in the ICW around Myrtle Beach, but in places where I've spent time around it (further south), the rain doesn't affect it for long, if at all. And if the rain dropped the temp below 78 then as far as I'm concerned, bring on the ick! |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread For the pre-meeting BT gathering, I'll be wearing a t-shirt with a big Rev3 logo on the front. I figured that will be easy to spot. (Those are cool races, btw. I am not affiliated with that team, tho I was on it last year, fyi) Edited by keyone 2010-09-30 8:55 AM |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread OK so I'm here and done with packet pick-up.....WOW---host hotel is confusing when you walk in---NO front desk right there in front of you!!! OK so the meeting is 4pm....I'm thinking BT meet at 3:45pm at the bottom of the spiral stairs coming down to the lower level from the main level---it's to the right as you come in the main doors and then spirals down to the ballroom/meeting rooms...and to keep with the above posts I'll go with the red shirt to make it easier to see me---- Edit to add: I picked up the local paper in the lobby when I checked in and there's a whole article (front page) about the race!!! Kinda cool. Edited by Skippy74 2010-09-30 7:25 PM |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread I finished my Dork day and went on a test ride at home. Then drove here in terrible rain the whole way. 17 near the Battleship was a mess at 5pm. My foot started aching as I drove past the B2B site ;-) Just barely made it to packet pickup in time. I'll be at the spiral stairs looking for the athletes wearing race Tshirts. lol. Maybe we should all buy hula skirts. My hotel is a dump compared to the host hotel. I guess it's okay tho. bathroom is clean. bed is comfy. I don't hear loud noise. Some golfer dudes were laughing at me lugging my bike up the elevator. Apparently, I'm the only athlete staying here. Doing a short run tomorrow. I would love to do it on the beach, but that might be a bad idea as beach running beats up my quads. Maybe there's a treadmill at the hotel. Getting excited and nervous. Haven't decided yet if I will race with or without data. |

And yeah the host hotel is pretty darn nice!! Looks like a couple other athletes are staying here where I am---saw a couple cars come in with bikes on/in them. And NOOOO to running on the beach!!! Yeah driving by the Battleship was a mix of emotions---first time I've been back down this way since B2B..... |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread Crap, double post due to sketchy internet connection. Oh well, here's a question... Did anyone get a number for their helmet? Is it okay to put the bike number onto the angled tube of the bike? Always a challenge to get the bike number on for a long race where I really want to keep my saddle bag. Oh, and I take back what I said about the hotel not being noisy. Apparently, Bikefest is going on the street outside my window :-( Edited by keyone 2010-09-30 8:49 PM |
