Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread Haven't registered yet but I've qualified and have it on my calendar! Family and I have been going to Myrtle Beach the last couple of summers so figure this will be a good excuse for a long fall weekend at the beach. I'm looking forward to it---seems like it should be a fast course-hopefully it won't be a draft-fest! |

New user 51 Washington, DC | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread So seeing as you guys are already pretty much signed up, I'd like to get your opinion. I'm planning on doing my first HIM, and thought this race looked like a lot of fun - good course, lot going on with the sprint and oly in town as well, and it fits my schedule perfectly. Here's the thing - those 250 open registration spots, are those for people who didn't qualify but feel like they're close, or are they really for anyone? I have no idea how fast I'm going to be (though I'd wager I won't be close to 5:15), so I don't want to wind up way out of my league, or taking a spot from someone else just so I can slow it up. Basically - am I breaking some sort of etiquette by registering? Edited by drphungky 2010-05-11 3:59 PM |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread The "open" spots are just that---open spots! Register and join the fun. The only real difference is that an "open" spot is NOT eligible for Team USA slots (and possible the results will be seperate---as in kinda like two races in one...if I remember the website correctly). This sure seems like it would be a good first HIM course---early fall so plenty of good time to train, flat course and if traveling Myrtle should have some good room rates given all the hotels in the area and it being "out of season." |

That's exactly what I was thinking! I'm not too worried about not being able to qualify for Team USA, haha. Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to register. |

Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread AHHHH!!! Man, I wish this race wasn't an hour from where I live. I (unknowingly) qualified for this race in Augusta last year. Then did Ironman Florida. I told myself no long distance stuff in 2010. I'm currently registered for 8 sprints and just 1 olympic distance race. But this race is so tempting. |

I also told myself no IM this year, and now I'm seriously considering B2B. I'll be at Myrtle Beach in any case -- I'm already signed up. The course looks fantastic. |

OK that doesn't really work for me either so I've stopped signing up for B2B because right now two trips for tri's isn't in the budget.... |

LOL Just for everyone's info Carol is FAST and crushed B2B last year---I got to meet her just after she finished and she WAS in pain---BUT she had put a hurting on that course (all while dealing with being sick leading up to it IIRC)!! |

Haha, I remember seeing her on the course complaining about the lights or lack there of. Thanks, Skippy74. If I recall correctly, you passed me in the run, so you were faster! And yes, I had a terrible chest cold 10 days before the race. That sucked! AUSQuest - Were you one of the nice folks who stopped to see if I was okay when I tripped in the dark? If so, THANKS! The darkness sucked, too. If anyone is planning to do that race, bring a flashlight for the 2nd half of the run. What I learned is that Ironman is dealing with whatever challenges face you on race day. I learned alot. And I don't need to learn it again!!!! Tho, I'm very glad I did it. And I love my tatoo!!! PS: people sometimes ask me if my tattoo is a radio station. Hard to explain an ironman to someone who doesn't know anything about it, so I'm starting to say "Yeah, check it out sometime, real good music" Edited by keyone 2010-05-17 6:41 PM |

Well I finally pulled the trigger and actually registered for this race (as a qualifying entry...). Definitely need to work on flat riding/pedaling the whole 56miles----hmmmm kinda like B2B last year..... |

I qualified as a clyde and am hoping to drop some weight to help me speed up on my run. Just about ready to gear up for serious training, but my maintenance has been going pretty well. This will be my first "travel" tri, so it should be interesting. |

I've looked at average water temps there and it looks like it will be borderline between wetsuit-legal and not. At that temp, you certainly do not NEED a wetsuit, though it would likely make you a bit faster. |

I'll need all the help I can get. I see the Xterra Volt suit is only $99. Not a bad price at all. Anyone tried them out? |

I haven't. Just make sure that you try it on before you buy, or at least do what you can to make sure it fits. A poorly fitting wetsuit can slow you down rather than speed you up -- like swimming in a straitjacket. |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: TriSports.com Halfmax Naitonal Championship : Official Thread I like Xterra wetsuits, and they have a fit guarantee so that if you buy it online and it doesn't fit, you can trade for another size. If you are borderline between two sizes, go with the larger one. I have a Vortex full and love it! PS: they are always having 50% off sales, so wait until you see one of those before you buy! Looks like the Vector is already 50% off now. Edited by keyone 2010-06-15 6:55 AM |
