Sold out last year in early September...trend seems to be that it sells out earlier each year.

I just registered for my third go at it...great race, great venue, scenery, etc...

Ok ...I just wanted to make sure it wasn't crazy like Nautica and have it sell out in 24 hours.

I think I'm going to do it next year. I'll wait till after my first Olympic in July to make a decision. If it sells out, that's cool.

it is a lot of money, but for a first 70.3...it's absolutely worth it..the problem you will run into is after the race....you'll get hooked...

Plus the $13 Active registration fee.  Can't see that it really costs them $13 to process my registration, but nothing I can do about it.  It is a great race.  Start practicing riding hills.

I would agree with The Wolf.  My guess is that Oceanside will sell out earlier than it did last year.  I've heard from a lot of people that either raced for the first time or missed out this year and said they would be back.  I still think there's plenty of time, but it wouldn't surprise me if it sold out during the summer.

For me, the cost of the event is nominal (compared to everything else we have to buy to maintain participation in the sport).  I'm in San Diego, so the additional travel costs to Santa Cruz and Vegas for the other HIMs mentioned would probably cost me more in the long run.  That being said, if I still lived in Santa Cruz, I would still probably make the trip down for Oceanside.  It is an awesome race!

Full Silverman is definitely one of the races I have on The List.  I've heard nothing but great things about the organization and I don't know if you'll find a more challenging course.  The fact that it doesn't sell out (yet) and that it's still within driving distance of San Diego (no bike shipping fees...yeah!) make it that much more appealing.

I've done one WTC race (Cal 70.3 was NAS at the time, I guess) and 2 non mdots (wildflower 2x and pumpkinman).  Yes, the IM hoopla was nice, but both WF and PM were as well supported as the mdot race.   (and also much harder)

Silverman half is definitely on the list

I went as a spectator this year and scoped it out.  I want in for 2011!  If I hold off on registration until July I will be able to put at least partial payment of registration fee on my birthday wish list.

I'm going to sign up for a HIM sometime early next year, preferably this one, but may do Wildflower, Vineman, or any of the other venues around here.  Hopefully it takes some time.  The big problem is my on call schedule hasn't came out yet, which obviously I can't race if I'm on call that weekend.

so a noob question here,

but when you are on your bike portion of the race how do you refill your bottles if you finish them? do you have to stop and get off, or do you just throw them down and then the tent gives you just a new bottle with water or gatorade in it?

They hand out new ones (gatorade bottles like you would buy in the store, not necessarily bike bottles)

Ok, just signed up for this half so I'm ready to start all over. I haven't raced since my IM in AZ back in 2008. I lost my sight during the bike and run but finished so I'm looking for some redemption.

I'm going to get myself back in the game in 2011.  Just signed up for this - I believe it's my 5th time for Oceanside.
