Does it count as my first HIM if I've already done Fulls?   I guess it does because it's a completely different race, paced differently.

Anyone use any of the HIM training plans on the site?  I'm looking at using the 20 week plan (starts mid-Nov), but a little nervous about the time commitments ( up to 15+ hr weeks - with str training ) during the short daylight days of winter.

I haven't used that specific plan, but I have used the beginner and intermediate full iron plans.  The strength training isn't really mandatory.  I didn't do any of the weight training, but tried to do core workouts when they were called for and sometimes just core in place of where it called for weights.  Swim, bike, run are priorities and then core if you have time and strength if you really want to get the most out of your training.

Yup, website says SOLD OUT.  Good thing I didn't try to wait until after Ironman Louisville to sign up.  I'll be running the Boston Marathon 2 weeks after oceanside, but I'm going to keep my training focused on the 70.3 and then throw in the marathon.  I might extend some of my long runs just to be safe.

Congrats to everyone that got in before it sold out!  The last couple of years, this race has sold out in October.  Crazy how fast these events are closing!

Destroyer - I've run Boston after Oceanside the past two years.  I thought it worked out better when the 70.3 was two weeks before the marathon, like it will be in 2011.  My marathon plan calls for a 13-miler that weekend anyway and you can take Sunday off since the race is.  This year, I was supposed to do my 20-miler on Oceanside weekend, since it was three weeks out from Boston.  Yeah...that wasn't going to happen.  In 2009, I was focused on my first Boston and just did the tri along the way.  This year, I wanted to go for a time at Oceanside and just run the marathon.  For what it's worth, my two marathon times ended up being within a minute of each other.  I haven't really thought much about the gameplan for these two races next year.  Seems like a long way off.

Good!  I am going to need you to give me more than a couple pushes this winter to keep training when when it is dark and cold!

Yeah, so I am realizing my last couple halfs I've come in with some pretty good base fitness.... this time I'm coming in with almost nothing....  Maybe signing up wasn't such a hot idea.   funny, I haven't been nervous about completing a distance in quite a while.    :^

Yep, this race is still a long ways away - plenty of time for base.  I'll probably start race specific build around Feb 1.  Have Carlsbad and Boston Marathons to worry about, so the run should take care of itself.  Planning on spending the winter on swim-specific stuff so I can balance out my disciplines.  Will squeeze in time on the CompuTrainer when the weather is bad.  Might race the Desert and/or San Diego oly to prep.

You got plenty of time to build the base chris, and since you've done this before, I'm sure it won't take that long to build that base.  Lace up the shoes, get on that bike and swim mah man.....

I was just reading this active.com preview of the Oceanside race and it brought up a question.

http://www.active.com/triathlon/Articles/Ironman-70_3-California-Race-Preview.htm

How is transition set up?  is it like the olys and sprints I've done in the past with wave sections then first come-first served spots?  Or do you have an assigned space in transition which matches your number, like I've experienced in some other longer races?

Just wondering!
