I'm throwing my hat in the pool. As a hopefully finisher, not a contender.

Greetings from West Michigan.  I'm in for the OLY.   Racing to complete - not compete and to enjoy the sights and sounds of my hometown!  "That's my town Indy"

What's it like swimming in the canal?  I'm interested in doing the sprint, but a bunch of people I mention it to seem to think they would not be caught dead in the canal; they think it's disgustingly dirty.  Any thoughts?

Being a USAT sanctioned event as well as a highly promoted local event, I'd like to think the city would do what it can to clean the canal in every possible way. (I'm hoping anyhow)

one of the guys i work with says they clean it up real nice for the races. that was my biggest concern as well but all the other local oly's were taking place when ill be on vacation so i have to suck it up and swimin the canal. he said its nice though since you dont really have to worry about zigzagging all over its a pretty straight swim.....

I did it last year.  Canal was at least as clean as some of the local reservoirs used for tri's.  You could see actually see the bottom in many areas. There was a swim warm-up area right near the Start, which was good.  A few rocks or bricks on the bottom so step lightly.
Pavement for the bike course was rough in many areas, but overall a very well-run event in a nice urban venue.

I'm signed up for the oly.  I had a few friends who said the canal was pretty clean last year.  This is my first oly, so I'm definitely just in it to finish.

+1
And not my fav color either.

But I'd rather do a well-run event with a blah shirt than have a great shirt and a cluster-f#@$ race

I am in.  Last year did it as a last race prior to IM Louisville.  With the new date this year I was not going to race due to racing Steelhead but I got my slot to Clearwater in hawaii last week so I am in.  I like the race.  The canal is not that bad (better than eagle creek) and the bike should be better than last year.  I think that they have or will be fixing some of the roads.  The run is an easy run as long as the heat is not there (or we have time to get used to it).

Hope for a top 10 finish (or 15 depending on who shows up).

I am thinking about it.  I just finished an Oly in Muncie last weekend and I would like to get another Oly in before the end of the season.  This one would be a good one that is more affordable than the last one.

WOW, Tri Indy 2010 is fast approaching.  Has anyone heard if their response this year is as good as last?  I read on their site (or mailing) that it is expanded to 1500 this year!

Looking forward to a great event!

PS - Is the JW Marriott open yet?  From what I remember, isn't that adjacent to transition area is?  That would be sweet stay and convient for future Triathalon Expo the day before to mirror what CHicago does.  Can Tri-Indy keep growing with the limitations of the canal?

Hope everyone's training is going well

The Marriott is not open yet.  Slated to open early 2011.

I did the Oly last year and my only complaint was the lack of water on the run course.  Hopefully they have a bit more support this year.

Did the event last year and they had 2 aid stations on the 5k loop (Oly=2 laps).  Seemed fine to me.

I'm going to sign up for the sprint.  I did the duathlon last year and the bike was a little rough as far as the road conditions go.  Hopefully the roads will be a little better this year.  Overall it was a fun race.  Very HOT!!!

I'm signed up for the Oly. I did Tri-Indy last year as my first olympic distance event. Hopefully I can improve over that performance. I really crashed on the run last year. I aggree with the other comments regarding the canal. I think it is as clean as most of the local lakes. As far as the shirts, I thought they were great last year! My favorite shirt of the season!

I just finally committed to the oly yesterday.  I'm in!  This will be the biggest tri for me so far.  My last one had about 400-500 athletes competing in 5 separate events.  I expect to be slower at this race just because of all the traffic.  We'll see.
