Today I packed the family up and we went to the beach at Kelso Park in Milton. I ended up having a very pleasant OWS.  In case you're doing the Tri there next week here is a 'water update'...

The water is very warm compared to last year so I only used my DeSoto 'bib-john' and was plenty warm - there were quite a few people swimming with no wetsuit.

The water colour is something halfway between chocolate milk and urine. Strangely, it kinda smells and tastes that way as well. There was quite a bit of loose stringy water weed - nothing that would interfere with a swim but don't get spooked if a string gets wrapped around your arm.

In case you want to go have a practice swim - it's $5/per person to enter the park and the beach is located on the SW end on the lake. The beach is segregated by a long buoy line - if you swim just outside the line its approx. 200m from end to end (see photo below).

I was there today as well.  Water was great but I didn't taste it and roughly 70F.  I went with a full sleeve suit (all I own) and I was comfortable.  I did notice the weeds as well but it wasn't anything you can't easily swim through.

We did an OWS yesterday at Gullivers Lake (hwy 6/Safari road).  We had thought about going to Kelso but thought the water would be warmer at Gullivers.  It was actually too warm  - I'm guessing at least 75!  I had a full-sleeve and with the sun beating down I was hot by the end of the swim.  Such a difference from this time last year!  We are going to try and get to Kelso in the next couple of weeks to practice up for Guelph Lake I.

Just keep in mind that the weeds are at the beach end of the lake - the race goes off at the top of the end of the lake where the boat launch is located.  No weeds up there from what I remember.
