Has anyone competed in this particular race?  If so, could anyone tell me about the swim, bike and running course.

I'm Considering it, but I know it's hill country, right?  Would you recommend a wetsuit?  Will a disc do me good here?  How tough is the 4.4 mile run (which happens to be my nemesis)?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Just sign up!

This will be my 4th year doing it, it is my worse race of every year.  The swim is like every other 1000m swim, but you run up a hill to T1.  The run is pleasant, not to flat, but not to hilly, except the big hill separating you and the finish line.   Oh, the bike...It has got to be one of the toughest bike courses in Texas.  It is out and back with the turn around at the bottom of the biggest hill.  The race's catch phase on their advertisements is "the one with the hills."

All that aside, it is always an excellent race, well directed and planned.

I very familiar with the course even though I've never raced it. This year will be my first time to compete in this race and it will be my third Tri ever. Should be a good challenge. I live in Marble Falls, so I know the course well even though I've never raced it. As for the bike route, I've driven that route many times and it doesn't seem to bad Wink. I'm actually gonna ride it for the first time this Sunday. The run is mostly flat and the swim is basically a 1000 meter square in beautiful Lake Marble Falls right off the bridge. It'll be a great race and hope you can make it. We'll treat you like family so sign up and come on down!

I'm definitely considering it, but concerned about the run.  Haven't been running since the last of May.  Sounds like fun, though.  I've also been told the scenary is really nice out there as well.  I just might follow your advice and sign up.  Thank you.

I think the water temp is usually too warm for a wetsuit.

No wetsuit needed. I swam in the lake last Saturday and it's really nice. Not sure the exact temp but I'm guessing 80 degrees. It will obviously continue to warm up. Glad you decided to sign up. You won't regret it and you're right about the scenery. It's beautiful here.

About a six hour trip for me (one way), but I look forward to visiting and participating in your mighty city.

The run is not what I would consider hilly.  There is one short hill at the finish but most of the rest of it is small inclines.  The bike is chock full of hills beginning as soon as you come out of transition.  Have the bike in a small gear and be prepared to keep it there most of the race.

It is a fun race with a great location and some great local cafes you should visit before you leave.

Great race.  Not too crowded and a nice challenging course.  The bike has good sized hills, but just go out there and have fun with it.

cornchexs,

Unfortunately, where I live we have zero hills.  So even the small inclines will present a challenge.  Should be fun.  I'm looking forward to it.

I'll try and make it there a day or two ahead of time.  Any restaurant recommendations?  Seafood is my favorite.  Anything to keep the wife and young ones happy (considering going)?

Thank you.

Great race if you're looking for something between a Sprint and Oly. The bike course is tough and the run is pretty much flat. Swim will be non-wetsuit but Lake Marble Falls is a great swim.

I've done it 3 times and plan on doing it again this year.

Please describe tough.  Might take the road bike instead of the tt bike if that's the case.   Not a whole lot of time in the saddle on my new tt bike.......so curious.

If you're not used to riding hills, then it will be tough. The course starts with a pretty big hill right out of the gate. From there, it's a fairly steady include for another couple miles up Hwy 281 until turn off to Hwy 71. Expect rolling hills for the next several miles and then a monster hill just before the turnaround. The first 3 miles after the turnaround are brutal and then it's rolling hills again back to 281 and then it's all downhill to T2. If you're more confident climbing on your road bike then bring it. Keep in mind that I'm an average cyclist and the Marble Falls Tri will be my third triathlon. But I don't think there's anyone in the race that won't agree that this is a challenging bike course.

Brett,

Thank you again for chiming in.  I think I'll probably end up going aero.  However, from your description of the course, it sounds like it's going to be tough coming out of T1 'till the finish.  I hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those "why are you putting yourself through this" races.

Hope to see you out there.

Best regards,

I've volunteered the last two years. It's a fun tri, you should definitely do it. Swim seems pretty average - you do not need a wetsuit. You do have a run up a hill the minute you get out of the water, don't freak out it's not that bad. I hear the hardest is definitely the ride because of the hills, but that's why we're called the Hill Country. Ride is out and back 281 to 71. The run is fairly flat with a little incline at the finish. I believe this year is the 10th Anniversary so should be even more special. Burgers, drinks, etc. at and of race. Planned on doing it this year, but got a visit from the stork so I'm out, but will probably volunteer again. Hope to see you there.

gilmurray,

Congratulations!!  Enjoy them wile they're young.  They grow up in the blink of an eye.

I'll be honest and say I'm a little concerned about the hills, specifically the run portion.  However, I'm going out there and just going to have some fun with it.  I'm sure the scenary and the like-minded enthusiasts will help me get through the race just fine.  Hope to see you out there as well and thank you for chiming in.

best regards,

I'm looking into this race, but I need to have a nice campground to spend the weekend at. Anything nice pretty close to the race? I did find Krause Springs, but they've got a no dogs policy so it's out.
