Subject: GO LA any LA tri members up in here?
Hey all -moving from the big apple to LA at the end of July any thoughts about the LA Tri club, I'm thinking about joining but that fee is steep -any feedback?

Thanks!

Depending on where you are in LA, look into the Long Beach Tri Club. They are new and the fees are $60 a year. Go to lbtriclub.com for info

Thanks for the response, I will be living in Marina Del Rey so LB might be a bit far. I'm from CA originally and looking forward to coming home -seems like not many BTers in the LA Tri club I guess...

I used to live in MDR! Such awesome swimming and cycling and running RIGHT THERE.

Gazillion BTers in LA Tri Club, they're (with the exception of ChrisM, who's a moderator) just not real active on BT.

Technically I'm still a member of LA Tri as well. I was one of the founders of the Pokey Posse ride. Awesome if you need a giant slow ride by the ocean.

Yes, the fee seems steep, but it is SO WAY WORTH IT ... you'll wind up getting schwag and discounts that are well over the fee. Another alternative is LA Tri publishes its workout calendar ... you can just show up to the workouts and get to know people and hang and be an honorary-type member, so to speak (and DEFINITELY show up at first Thursday socials, which are also open, and you will get plenty of good stuff there). That's also published without having to login on the LA Tri Club site.

Good luck! I still think LA beach cities are the most wonderful place on Earth, especially for a triathlete.

ex moderator, I'm retired

However not a current member, the membership lapsed and I just haven't re upped it.  The only tri activity I do is the Sunday morning swim.  Price is steep, but there are some decent discounts at bike shops and such.

I am a member and love it. I have met a lot of great people through the club and continue to meet more people all of the time. The benefits more than make up for the price. I say do it!

My only complaint (and this is nothing against the group, or members) but that if you live in the South Bay, everything is a great trek to get there. I guess that has to deal with the city of LA being so big. I mean it sucks not being able to make a 5:00 swim or workout in Santa Monica if you get out of work at 4 in San Pedro. I have done the Redondo Beach swims with Fory and some others and they are awesome people. Just too far for me

Basically the reason I don't do anything but the Manhattan Beach swim, it's pretty Santa Monica/Brentwood centric.  Which is fine, really, there are TONS of people in teh South Bay to work out with

I think that if you're in Marina Del Rey, LA Tri would be great for you. I'm in Long Beach and was a member for a few years, but most workouts, socials, events, etc. were in the Santa Monica/West L.A. area. There are some things in other cities, but I was pretty far away to get to do much. I think it is a great club though, and would still be a member if there wasn't a Long Beach Tri Club now! Good luck!

I enjoy the club and I live in Modesto(I visit L.A. often), the races I do they are in Full support, before ,during, after races. The club gets discounts everywhere, which could easily pay for the membership, also they draw the top names for presentations and seminars. I could not believe all the free stuff I got at my last race as we had a dinner get together the night before. They have new member nights,as well as tons of workouts going on all over the place. I have yet to do one team workout but I take advantage of everything else, there is so much more to offer. They have a great network through thier own forum, good classifieds, good workout info and calander.
