Tinman Hawaii
88F / 31C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 16m 16s
Overall Rank = 82/583
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/59
Pre-race routine:

up so early 2:45 ! got to race check in by 4am.

basics - clif bar, banana, green tea

Event warmup:

did a short run warmup by the park, some stretching
Swim
  • 13m 31s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

flat and fast course, no major problems
Transition 1
  • 03m 22s
Comments:

fumbled around a bit with glasses, gloves, shoes and belt. wasn't the fastest T1 for sure !!
Bike
  • 1h 09m 42s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.39 mile/hr
Comments:

road was generally smooth but a number of areas were rough, esp on the return leg. lots of inexperienced bikers in this tri.

felt good over Diamond Head, starting to open up as I got onto the highway out to Hawaii Kai. Headwinds were annoying but not too bad. Heartbreak hill wasn't a problem, and had a pretty good return leg. Although some headwinds (unexpected) on the return. Rough roads too.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Run
  • 48m 8s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

felt strong on the run, always hoping for a sub 45, but maybe next year.

the difference from last year is I had more power to do something on the run whereas last year I was struggling to get it done. I'd attribute that to more training this year.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, drank amino vital (love AV) ate a few apples. then went over to the sunday market and got a plate lunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

oh not sure except for more relentless training ?

Event comments:

love the Tinman. fun race for all.

Nice race Noel...your placing across all three disciplines was very even...unlike myself.

But yeah...you need to stop wasting time in transitions!  WTH were you doing...LOL

Great race! Especially the bike, way to smoke it. T1 was a little slow though, did you walk from the water?

yeah slow T1 ! I did run up to the transition area but spent too much time messing around with putting on sunglasses, gloves, aero helmet, socks and bike shoes. just didn't hurry, so it shows!!

My advice, ditch the gloves and maybe the socks. I never ride my bike with socks on rides less than about 80 miles now.

x2

For a 40K TT or shorter, I don't bother with gloves and socks. Your hands and feet are wet and trying to put fabric on over wet skin is annoying.
