So if you read my Danskin Race Report, you've probably seen that I'm pretty good at the swim and bike, but SUCK at running. I think my form sucks, my stamina sucks, my speed sucks. Pretty much everything about me says that I run like a sloth.  My 10 minute miles were pathetic.  I ranked 200/2780 on the swim, 411/2780 on the bike, and 1050/2780 on the run.  I need help!

I was looking for anyone who would be willing to meet me to coach me on running. Evaluate form, pace me, challenge me on workouts. Male or female?  And I'll pay you even.

Melanie

Mel - before you go offering to pay, maybe you should just run with some of us at first.  Not all of us are fast.

There's also several runner's groups in the area: BolderBoulder training groups (various levels), Fleet Feet, Boulder Running Co., Runner's Roost, Boulder Roadrunners, to name a few.  Most of them have group runs, with the various levels split out.  You can also run some 5Ks to improve.

If you prefer to run on your own, though, try the plans at www.halhigdon.com and www.runnersworld.com first.  I've used these, and they have helped - by far the best teacher has been experience.

I live really far south, but would love to meet with you all to do some runs.  I haven't seen too many group runs posted. Let me know if you would like to meet sometime...anyone.

I will also check out some online training plans. Thanks for the advice!

I'd be up for some group runs as well. Running is also my weak link.

Hi Melanie,

I am in the same boat as you. Running is my weak point. I am comfortable in swimming and biking but hit a wall when I have to run. I run 10-11 minute miles. I would love to join a group with you or if you want to work on a plan from the internet together I would be up for that. I live in Lone Tree which is pretty far south. Are you anywhere nearby? I usually do my long runs on the Highline starting at the Goodson rec center. I also run the Bluffs off of Lincoln and Yosemite.

I am actually in the Ken Caryl area at Kipling and C-470...but I'll travel to meet half way.  I found some good speed workouts that need to be done on a track. Do you know of one around University or Broadway and C470. It would really help me to do grueling intervals if I had someone to do them with!

What about one of the high schools. I have worked out at the Highlands Ranch HS track. I'm not sure where the other schools are but we can find one I'm sure. What time of day do you usually run? Evenings would probably work for me for speed work. I do my main workout in the morning.

Hola Mel!  Sounds like I live a few miles north of you (Kipling & Bowles).  My running could also be described as you've described yours.  I'm working on adding more volume and endurance, not speed (yet).  You might check in with the Boulder Running Co at Wadsworth & Bowles to see if they have a running group.  You might also check in with Jonathan Siegel at http://www.jdssportcoaching.com/ (he's my coach).  You would be welcome to join him at the the Harvard Gulch track for a group workout.  Have you considered Team in Training for a marathon?  The local TNT running coach is a legend.  I also get a magazine called Colorado Runner (I think).  A subscription came with a race entry fee - anyway there are lots of ads there for coaches & teams.
