Overall Rank = 28/88
Age Group = Clydes
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00am, had two pieces of wheat toast with peanut butter. Had vehicle packed from night before and left for 1 hour trip to race site. Arrived at 5:30 and picked up timing chip and set up transition area. Walked around and found bathroom in hotel next door. Ended up with about 30 minutes to kill before pre-race meeting
Event warmup:

Not much here besides some light stretching and walking.
Swim
  • 20m 41s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

I never felt comfortable, first OWS and was not prepared. Most of my swims had been pool swims and mistakenly thought I could pull through as I do in the pool. Was expecting to exit the swim at about 17 minutes so very dissappointed with swim.
What would you do differently?:

Sighting practice, more OWS period
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Struggled some with one shoe getting it on.
What would you do differently?:

More T1 practicing, would like to learn jumping on bike
Bike
  • 35m 33s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.98 mile/hr
Comments:

All in all pretty pleased with the bike, especially as I was on a hybrid. Really looking forward to getting my road bike in October, thinking I could have improved quite a bit on a roadie but it was nice to pass some TT's and road bikes on my old hybrid.
What would you do differently?:

Probably push my pace a little more
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

When jumped off bike my shoe came unclipped. Had to stop and pick up shoe.
What would you do differently?:

More T2 practices
Run
  • 24m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Immediately had cramp in left calf. Ran through the cramp and settled into a good pace. Passed no one, but did not get passed either. Actually my best 5K time ever, even in a regular 5K race so again pretty pleased. Hill training definitely helps
What would you do differently?:

Pushed a little more towards the finish, came up on mile 3 and just sort of cruised on in. Definitely felt like I had something left but was too caught up in enjoying the moment of just finishing my first tri.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for a few minutes, picked up a water, banana, and some orange slices. Had a coke a few minutes after

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My first tri, so nerves probably more than anything else
