My last full rest day was Saturday, July 31.

I had to ask permission from another triathlete to take today completely off after 9 straight days of training and/or racing.  I did a tough double yesterday to make myself feel better about resting today.

This ex-couch potato is in a weird place.

I rested yesterday.....and didn't for a minute feel bad about it.  My ride, Saturday....and my run, Sunday....were my longest, ever.

My couch felt great.

I don't really even plan rest days, when real life gets in the way, I call it a rest day.

You need help.

Apparently I do, too. Because when I finally took a rest day today, I wound up sleeping a total of nearly 15 hours.

Perhaps you could plan another fun activity on rest days? Or do, you know, active rest like yoga or doggypaddling?

Why about rest days make them tough for you?

For me, I get to recover (physically and mentally), spend much more time with my family, and time away from triathlon.  I love rest days.

I make myself take at least one every 7 days, but I sleep terrible those nights. To much energy left. I tried golfing last rest day and that helped some, but still layed there thinking but going and getting on the treadmill for 30 minutes, juts to "make myself sleepy."

either train harder durign the week so you are ready for your rest day, or, you know, if you dont need it, dont take a day off then....... pretty simple.

and proper rest is just as important as getting the workouts in, its a part of training, not some pesky other thing you do.

You dont rest right, then none of that training is going to matter on race day.

Either have a set day off where you train enough/hard enough that by the time you get there you are ready, or take them as needed (i prefer the latter, no days off in july and only 3 in june).

Just finished my first weekend of a double race - International distance on Saturday and Sprint on Sunday.  Both were a hammer fest so I am really enjoying a second straight rest day.

Loving it - as well as the muscles.

When I was doing heavy weight training, I did a 3 day on, 1 day off rotation and I had awesome results.  The owner of the gym in CT actually asked me one time if I was "clean" or not.  (PEDs question, not hygiene)

When tri training, I have a much harder time getting it through my head that rest days are beneficial and I don't quite comprehend why.

Between June, July, and August I've had complete rest days only seven times.  I hate rest days as much as you do.  My wife was having contracts (her due date is Aug 27) and my son didn't sleep well last night, so I decided that today was a good day for rest.  But even with those circumstances it was hard!

(BTW, the contracts have stopped, so I guess it was a false alarm.)

I am forcing myself to take 1 whole day off per week in the 5 weeks remaining leading up to my HIM. I was starting to feel burnt and been reading way too much about the importance of recovery.

You should feel guilty when you DON't rest!

I take a rest day once a week but around 4:00 I start to get a little restless. That's when the family moves outside because mom starts to vaccuum, mop, wash windows. If you don't want to be scrubbed get out of my way on a rest day!

Same here.  Life is bound to get in the way eventually.

Use your rest days for massages or yoga or doing something else you enjoy!
