Im debating on the road I.D that i should purchase. should get the elite or the original with the velcroe?  I just wasnt sure if the elite would be ok in water. or it the original wouldnt work in water or something. Which one do you guys prefer?  I would be wearing it basically everyday during sports and school and anything in between where i might not carry I.D.

I have the original and it is basically a velcro style sportwatch band, like on a timex. It holds pretty well, can't comment on the elite band. I would suggest sending an email. They have always been very helpful and responsive.

The interactive bit on Road ID requires a person to call a phone number or log onto a web site to access your profile. There is nothing that would be damaged by getting wet. I like the original version best.

Good luck

The elite's fine in the water.  I wear it 24/7.

Most Emergency Responders that have responded to similar threads have said that in a true emergency situation it is highly unlikely that they'd bother calling a phone nbr or going to a website. Keep it simple seems to be the common theme.

I have the original and wish I'd gotten the elite, because when it's really hot and humid the band soaks up sweat and feels kind of gross.

X 2.  I have the elite and it only has come off to sleep in the past 7 months.

x2  In a true emergency, ERs won't have time to call or go onto the internet, assuming they have access which many don't.    Put your data on the item itself.

I agree if you have special medical conditions, they need to be on the road id. I have no special conditions, instead I have contact information (my wife) to call if I am found and unable to communicate.

I have the shoe pouch and the velcro wrist ID. Love both of them.

And I've had the wrist going on 700+ (gear tracker) miles and it's not showing the first sign of wear. I do like the looks of the elite, but I've heard a few folks comment on the band opening... not sure though.

I find the elite band to be uncomfortable.   It sticks to my skin.  I much prefer the original sport band.

I also recently bought an ankle band, it's make of neoprene.  I am hoping to shorten it and wear it on my wrist.  That would be the ultimate I think.

I have the velcro and it works fine!  I agree, most first responders will not go through the hassle to call a number to find out your "ICE" information.  May I also recommend the SuperNova wrist light.  Many of my early morning workouts start in the dark, this bright flashing light really lets others know that I am approaching on the shoulder.  Just another level of safety I guess.  I have the green light and it is really bright!

After wrecking last month I decided it was past time to get RoadID so I ordered both the Wrist Elite and the Dog Tag style.  I find that I wear the dog tags every day, while the wrist version I'll only wear during a run or bike.

It's nice to have both, but if you only are going to get one, get the dog tag.

I have the original style and like it alot.  It's quite comfortable and I don't even notice it on rides of any distance.

x2 - I wear the wrist on pool swims, but the dog tag 24/7.  It is much less obvious when wearing work clothes, and I figure that I could be unresponsive anytime anywhere, with no way of telling people who to call ICE.

I have the velcro wristband style.  My first one the velcro wore out after a couple of years and I lost it while swimming--didn't notice until I was finished with the race and packing up my stuff.  Replaced with same because I don't think the Elite was out yet, but if I had it to do over I'd think seriously about the Elite band.

Now I try to make sure it stays under my wetsuit sleeve when I swim, and I figure if it starts to wear out again I'll order a new wristband before I lose the whole thing--much cheaper than having to order a new plate.

My first road ID was the velco wrist band and it was uncomfortable for me.  Maybe because I have really small wrists?  I don't know.  Now I have the neoprene ankle band and I don't even know I'm wearing it.  Super comfy, super visible (reflective) and it doubles as a timing chip strap.

this is all so helpful!  Im really thinking about getting the sport version now instead of the elite but im still not sure! ahhhh descions descions haha   hmmmm the elite would be good for an instance where im not in a sporting event and more formal wear, but i dont want it sticking to me like someone said previously. The sport seems good, but soaking up the sweat? yuck! lol im gonna have to make a choice eventually! thanks so much for all your opinions.

I don't use Road ID but always carry my Driver's License (or valid copy).  Around here (Midwest US- NOT AZ!!!) police can demand proper picture ID if they stop you for any reason (not just traffic violation.).  A guy in our local cycling club almost got "a trip downtown" recently when he was stopped without his DL.

By the way, if anyone is getting ready to buy there's currently a coupon code thread going over in Gear Reviews.

I bought the sport band for my husband about 3 years ago and although he gets it pretty sweaty, he still loves it.  It looks new and is easily scrubbed and dried with dish soap.  I would personally recommend the sport.

I have an interactive dog tag which I wear nearly 24/7. I have a chest scar from open heart surgery and I would think doctors would be curious as to what procedures I had had if I was unresponsive. I also carry ID for legal purposes.
