Grodi Jo - 2005-07-19 3:05 PMWow, I sense a little tension...........You know, as soon as the post says "Men Only", I am right there!! I want to know what the other half is experiencing, and the trials and tribulations of the male gender.Jodi
Not really an "other half" issue, but I ran the Peachtree Road Race after eating 20 "three mile island" wings the night before, and I can honestly say that I would rather have been bleeding....

That was so funny.  Do you include your "trots" incident in your Peachtree race report for everyone's viewing pleasure??

DOn't know what to tell ya.  If you don't want to bleed the only option is hormone manipulation (the pill, depoprovera etc) .  It may not work for this race but you would be safe for the next one.    If you don't want to do that....don't know.  DepoProvera is wonderful. One shot every three months an no periods   Some people on BT have ad trouble with it I know.  There is another monthly shot called Lunel I think.   Seasonal give you one period every 3 months.  Talk to your doc

Y'know, we really need a Women's Only forum.

I'm sure the guys would be in there more than the girls

You took the type right out of my fingers!

Actually, it was. When I saw the thread title, and the fact that you were the last poster, it immediatly put a smile on my face and I thought "oh, this is going to be amusing".

Maybe, but I was serious.

And maybe you could moderate the "humorless biddies" section.

umm...bear?  sense of humor WAS on the table, you didn't bite. loosen up.

you are a bully

At the risk of getting flamed incessantly, you could always just go and get knocked up....

LOL - that's the first thing that occurred to me too.

Oh bother Gwendal! That sucks. I don't suppose you take birth control pills and can juggle the period do you? You seem like someone who might not like that idea.

You probably don't eat chocolate either. I would just gut it out. There is not much else you really can do. Don't put off the tris. You may find that working really hard you don't notice it as much.

I swear I almost typed the same thing! Of course you aren't supposed to race pregnant.

Hey Gwendal:

If you don't want to mess with the hormones you might try acupuncture. There are some points that can specifically stimulate the uterus, as well as some herbs - should only be attempted with a good DOM (Doctor of Oriental Medicine), however.

Good luck!

Annabanana

That trigger point you press when you are trying to get your labor moving could work. (My best friend is an MD Acupuncturist). That is a FABULOUS suggestion!

Doesn't anyone else have this pattern? What do you do when circumstances won't allow you to hang out on the couch?

Gwendal

Gwendal.
For three YEARS I lived with ten days of miserable cramps, literal flooding (I could not be farther than an hour from a bathroom at any given time, and had disastrous results when I was) and it really limited my activity - athletic and otherwise. I could not run a decent distance, could not cycle for more than half an hour, and forget about swimming.

I did have my tubes tied when my last child was born, and I was reluctant to go back on the pill (after going through the surgery, who'd want to start pumping hormones in their body again, right?) but finally decided I'd had enough and now I'm on Seasonale. I have to say, as anti-pill as I am (we used alternative "natural" methods of birth control for years - though that, come to think of it, is how our youngest was conceived - oops) - I love the regularity I have now and my periods are much more manageable and reasonable.

Just a thought - if nothing else, it might work for you during race season.

Otherwise, I'd say, load up on the iron beforehand, pack lots of super plus tampons and hope for the best. Maybe just the high of race day will help you, energy-wise.

Good luck.

Maybe here, men will find they are being treated to an education.

Okay, so educate me -  I've heard two women bring up dark chocolate.  Help me out: how would that help?

Possibly overstepping my bounds-

Have you tried Instead Soft Cups?  I've had success with this, takes a little practice but it works great.  And you can use a tampon along with it too.

Well exercise is for NORMAL women but racing is really discouraged.

That is for NORMAL women. Since I have a tendancy to go into labor at exactly 24 weeks it's bedrest for me from week 13 on... poo... Which is why there are no more babies in my future. That and I love my babies but I have more fun with the older kids.

lol..  i wouldn't be able to get into an aero tuck by wk 20..

Try week 16 here! I have no space between my boobs and my hipbones. Babies have no where to go but straight out.

So Gwendal, what are you thinking?

LOL, is this code for, "I'm pretty sure I'd hate you?"  Nah, you wouldn't, even though I've offended you in the past.  I'm not above hormone manipulation, and I most definitely eat chocolate: I just limit it to really good DARK chocolate.

I would just gut it out. There is not much else you really can do. Don't put off the tris. You may find that working really hard you don't notice it as much.

Prepare myself for it mentally, and be prepared to leak/bleed makes sense to me.  After all, I'm already parading around in a ridiculous looking tri suit, who cares if I've got a dark stain on it?

Getting pregnant would be problematic, in that my husband could not be the father.  I think it would cause many more problems than it would solve!

But thanks for the suggestion.  I always wanted a fourth kid.  :-)

Wow, almost didn't catch that.

Okay, I don't remember what my post was, but I had this problem for my first tri, and doubling up was good for me.

Whaaa? Where is it written, to quote Yentl? I ran a 5k at 8 months and beat my husband by 3 minutes. Of course I normally kick his ass by a significantly larger margin. The baby weighed 9 lbs. 10.5 oz. and had a perfect Apgar at 5 minutes old. I don't think I hurt him.

Break out the big guns - dark chocolate sounds good to me.

Other than that the only advice I have to give is to caffeinate yourself that morning, especially if you don't normally do so.  It will give you enough of a buzz to get moving, and the race adrenaline should kick in after that.
