Pre-race routine:

We stayed at the Hueston Woods Lodge on the other side of the lake. I finally fell asleep around 12:30. Woke up a few times. Alarm went off at 6am and I felt pretty good waking up. Fixed a cup of coffee, put on my gear and headed out. I rode my bike over to the beach. About a 3 or 4 mile ride. Not sure if that helped or hurt. I was there plenty early enough. Was able to get my transition setup and check out the different areas. I thought they would be selling power bars that morning but were not so I did not have any food. I was lucky and my friend had a extra Banana and a instant breakfast drink.
Event warmup:

I didn't do any warmup except maybe a few minutes of swimming. Two weeks earlier I tweaked my heal and havent been running. It appeared to be about 80 % healed.
Swim
  • 13m 17s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam and a pretty nice effort. I would say that with work I should be able to improve
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

What to do to improve. The only thing I could do is to mount my shoes on the bike and go sockless. This would probably give me a 30 second advantages but there is a hill at the beginning of the bike so I wouldnt have been able to get the shoes in sooner
Bike
  • 47m 13s
  • 13.32 miles
  • 16.93 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to bike more!!!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

I need to buy tri shoes if I want to ride with feet on top of shoes
Run
  • 27m 5s
  • 3.16 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I really was pleased with my run. I did about 2 or 3 minutes better than I thought. I paced well. I did as well as I could based on my current fitness
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Very happy. Took a little water and a little poweraid and a cookie. Ate a big breakfast a hour later

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to just keep training to improve. I did well based on the training I did.

Event comments:

I hope that this race becomes bigger down the road. Also hope they fix the swim part. Other than that it was great.

Performance: Good
average heart rate 168 High heart Rate 183
Suit: Sleeveless Wetsuit
Course: I was a little disappointed that the swim course was so shallow. You could walk half of the course in hip high water. It was weird swimming the last part of the swim and when I would go to breath I was looking at peoples thighs walking next to me. Also based on my training I would say that I either kicked ass on the swim or that the course was not 750 meters. Probably between 550-650
