Just read this on facebook - Muncie Endurathon becomes Ironman 70.3 Muncie. I'm in - July 9, 2011. Of course, I was going to do the Endurathon again next year any ways, but now I'll get to experience an Ironman branded race. Don't know what to expect different, but we''ll see.

I just read that as well. I believe many years ago the Muncie Endurathon was part of the Ironman series before It became the huge success it is today.

I am going to use it as a training day for Louisville.

How quickly do you think this race will fill up?  I was going to do this race anyway but was thinking of signing up later.  Now I feel like I need to sign up sooner than later.  Is there a price increase now because it's an m-dot branded race?  I hear it's an awesome race.  Hope it stays that way.

I'm sure I'll be in the minority, but I'm sorry to see this happen.  Did Endurathon HIM this year (my 1st) and loved the small-town feel of this classic independent event.  The atmosphere (and cost!) will change a lot with the logo branding.  Always thought those who wanted that IM kind of experience in this area could do Steelhead.

I agree.  I was hoping to do this one next year.... not excited about paying the price for a "branded" race.

A $200 price tag now, what was the Endurathon?

Oh yeah...I knew the price would go up. Frown      If I remember correctly it was $150 last year.  So $50 more isn't that bad but still.....Frown

As I recall early registration was somewhat under $150, but I'd have to check.

Against my better judgment, and my body saying there's no way I would ever travel 70.3 miles in one day under my own power, I have also registered for the Ironman 70.3 Muncie.

This will be my first, and being an Indianapolis resident it just made more sense to do this one (though I was hoping for the independent race status, though I have nothing against WTC).

You're not the only one disappointed by any means. It's a great race that had character, now it's just another 70.3 for the masses. It's sad how many people want to do it now that it's an "Ironman" branded race. Like it's somehow going to be better, not just a lot more expensive Check another inexpensive, quality race off the list.

I had planned on doing the Endurathon next year so I'll probably sign up for Ironman 70.3 Muncie before the end of the year to try to avoid the price increase.

On a side note...If anyone saw the actual article about this in the Muncie The Star Press newspaper from the 10th, the picture of the guy on the bike was me!
