Are there any new August Challenges going on? I'd like to get in on one if there are.

If we do another challenge (and I think we should)  it would be fun to do West Coast vs. East Coast or something like that.

I have had my most consistant training month, ever, while participating in the July Team Challenge.  I think it's a great idea, and would like to suggest the August Challenge also be an "all around" 3 leg challenge.  I'm hoping to complete a 1/2 IM race in September and can't afford to back off of any leg.

I believe I have an unnatural desire not to lose my big belly that I have had for most of my life. I am not looking for 6 packs (prefer suitcases or kegs) but I need to firm up my belly. I bought a hanging ab contraption in February and put it in my bedroom. By April it became a place to hang dirty clothes. That all being said, I am going to challenge myself on crunches in August. Anyone interested? I think my goal will be to average 101 per day, so that means 3103 for the month.

I'm a big fan/convert of the tri challenge format and willing to do it again in August if there's enough interest.  For the first time this year, I was forced to sit down and put together a month long plan and then execute it.  I saw tons of benefits from the 1 sport only monthly challenges, but sometimes at the expense of my other sports.  This format allows everyone to focus on what ever limiters they want to.

Not sure how well the individual team thing worked out with the other captains, but I had and am still having a blast with my group.  Not sure how easy it was with recordkeeping....Renee????  But, it did definitely keep Renee busy for a lot of the month.  LOL!  I enjoyed being able to update 10 people's goals every day with only about 5 mins of time invested.  I think Petersen and Rennick enjoyed improving and updating too.  LOL!

It was some of the only work I had to do all month I'd be happy to volunteer to do the overall stats for another month.

Subject: Core training?

What about either adding Core Strength Training to the Tri Challenge, or just having a Core Challenge all it's own? I think if you had a Core Challenge, you should also set minimal training goals in the other 3 sports so that tri is not sacrificed for Core. Make it a real balancing act.

I know Core Strength Training is something I need to incorporate - the 4th pillar of tri training.

If it's another tri challenge, then I'm definitely in!  I couldn't do July's due to a 2 week vacation.  But if core/strength training gets added, I probably won't do it.  I'm on the 1/2 IM training plan, and scheduling all of the swim, bike, and run workouts required is hard enough.

I like the balance 3 sport challenge we are doing in July...keeps us training in a balanced fashion. I would do an all 3 challenge...West Coast vs East Coast would be fun....or teams like we have now would be great. I like the core idea, but probably wouldn't join if that was part of the August challenge but would say starting in Oct. when I will get back to gym for doing weights and the like.

Come up with some creative ways to put teams together!!

I think an east vs. west would end up with too many people on each team. I think it works better when there are about 10 on a team. That way, it's easier to keep track of the people on your team, and inspire/encourage them.

What if we did something like

Canada East
Canada West
US East
US West
US Midwest
US South
International

and then broke it up further as necessary to try to get a somewhat even # of people on each team?

We may be able to come up with a North Carolina Team.

It looks like the Dynasty of Team Yuengling will come to an end.  LOL  It's not fair to really have an All Star team, anyway.

I would love to join a challenge, although I agree that the idea of having a Core Training Element as well might be too much for me.

Let's keep Yuengling together until someone has the brass to knock us off the throne.    Challengers can build their own team, give it personality, let it rip.

But if core/strength training gets added, I probably won't do it.

I think those that want core in their challenge goals should add it and use in the calculations, those that don't, leave it off an don't use in calculations.  Some people will have 4 items - swim/bike/run/core and others 3.

I'd hate to see someone not participate because they may be forced to do something that isn't in their workout strategies.  Same idea if someone's injured or limited to only 2 of the 3 sports....there's no reason anyone should be excluded or not want to participate so long as some thought is put into goal setting.  Run - 0 miles,  Bike - 250 miles,  Swim - 25000m  etc.  That's just as legit for someone recovering from a run injury.  The beauty of the tri challenge or possibly the quad challenge (LOL!) is that it allows each athlete to work on their limiters and forces the team to plan a month in advance.  Which IMO are two very good things to be working on at this point in the season.

I loved the swim challenge but have missed out on the last couple of challenges. What's the format for joining in now. Do you need to register into a team? Does the 3 event challenge work in a similar way to the swim challenge - set yourself a target in each event and calc. %age over/under. Sorry for not checking through the other threads but there are so many.

Do these challenges carry any forfit, and are they decided prior to signing up?

I like the idea of the balanced challenge. This is the first one I've done, and its also the first month where I've actually stuck to the workout plan I made.

I would love to do the core challenge as well, but my gym is going to be closed for two weeks so I would have no way of lifting weights (is a college gym that's closing between the end of summer school and start of fall semester). But maybe just let people choose. If they want to include core strength training, let them. If they want to only focus on the 3 sports, let them. If they only want to focus on 2 sports, that's fine too. Just let people pick from the 4, set their goals, and they get points if they meet all their goals. Seems like it should work (in my mind anyway).

I also have had a very consistant training month, this July, because of the added incentive of this Challenge.  I think it was a great idea that is worth repeating.  Let's have another 3 sport Challenge BUT, I would suggest that we make make it either a challenge for mileage or time, not both.
