Sunny
Total Time = 4h 08m 47s
Overall Rank = 341/530
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 34/64
Pre-race routine:

simple breakfast - clif bars, banana, OJ
got the car packed and drove to the event. start time was 9am, so not as crazy early as typical road tri's
Event warmup:

got my transition setup, body marked, and headed down to the water for a short swim and beach run.
Swim
  • 28m 47s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

very clear and beautiful swim. almost forget I'm in a race, checking out the coral and fish as I swim by.

First lap was steady pace, and felt pretty good and strong on the 2nd loop.
What would you do differently?:

push a bit harder
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

overall decent transition considering it's off-road style. tough to put on some of that stuff quickly (camel back, long fingered gloves, socks, etc)
What would you do differently?:

practice
Bike
  • 2h 29m 8s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 7.50 mile/hr
Comments:

very tough terrain. extremely rocky. Got a flat that tore my sidewall about a 1/3 of the way in. took about 10mins to fix (next time I wont try patching it). Luckily it held until the end of the bike segment.

What would you do differently?:

better prepared with options for flats.
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

ok transition, could be faster
What would you do differently?:

practice
Run
  • 1h 05m 58s
  • 6.84 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

felt great on the run, with exception of hamstring cramps. took a few salt tablets and the cramps worked themselves out.
Post race
Warm down:

drank water then had a few beers.

Event comments:

overall just an amazing race. pretty hard core off road challenge with the best Xterra competitors (world championship). I felt honored to be able to compete with them. I hope to be able to do it again next year.

Hey Jason!

it was simply awesome. I got roped into it after Mountain Man, and glad I did it. Scary but fun.
