Subject: Spring Charleston Road Races?
Hi there,

We will be visiting the Charleston SC Area (staying on Kiawah Island) from March 13 through March 27th, 2011.  We were wondering what some good road races may be in the area for my wife and I.  A 5k is fine but this would be our first destination race so anything bigger is fine.  We both did a half mary this past October.

Thanks in advance from Rhode Island (If you are ever up here, I recommend the Newport Half and Full Marathon in October - Fantastic Race)

You could stick around another week to run the Cooper River Bridge.  Other than that, I don't know of many races.  If you wanted a nice sprint tri, there is the Parris Island Sprint, in Beaufort on the 19th.  About an hour and a half drive from Kiawah, maybe 1h45, but a run race and the first of the season in SC.

On a related note, do not miss the breakfast and brunch buffets at the resort.  Whatever you have to do to deal with the calories, do it.

Hello

When you go downtown to look around drive across the bridge into Mt Pleasant and go to Red's Ice for lunch or dinner. It is kind of like a Key West place to drink/eat.  Shrimp basket with home made potato chips!

Bummers, I was just about to post about the Catch the Leprechaun 5k. Since I was beaten to it, welcome to Charleston in March! 

As a side note - I live in Providence from 2005-2007. Good to see a Rhode Islander making it out of the state! Enjoy your stay at Kiawah!
