Hello All,
I am thinking about making this may target race (half Iron) this year.  Has anyone done this Rev3 event, how was the course, any compliments or complaints???
Thanks,
Mark

I did the half last year and thought it was a very good race. I will probably do it again this year. My race report probably has more the type of info that you are looking for. It is logged under my race history

I'm seriously considering it too - it's ON my 45th birthday! Can't think of a better way to celebrate!

I did the full there last year (also on my birthday!) and I had a great time. The race company is very responsive and their staff is accessible. In fact I went up there to pre-ride the course on a day when they had an organized course preview, and the race director was riding with me for a time.

My family mostly had a good time, but they used their park passes the day before the race and stayed out of the park on race day. There was some difficulty getting around the start/finish area if you didn't have a park pass. It wasn't impossible, but it was a hassle with little kids.

My only real complaint related to Cedar Point itself. We stayed on the park property at the campground, and it is posted no running, bike bicycling all over the property. So that made it tough to do gear check and things like that. There is a running path along the beach.

I highly recommend this race. I can't say enough good about Rev3. They put on a fantastic race at a great location. My family had a great time, too.

Just saw on FB that you can race for "free" if you raise money for their cancer fund partner.

I think I'm in!

Hi,

I did the Half REV last year and did register by raising money for cancer research. It worked out well in the end, but is was a little bit of a stress trying to get people to donate in the down economy.

As for the race.

The swim was good. The water was a little cool, but that was nice after you got warmed up. I would suggest a full wetsuit.

The bike left a little to be desired. The course is laid out well, and well marked. The road conditions were almost terrible. If you are looking for a smooth blacktop road, this is not the race for you. I would guess that at least 50% of the bike course was tar and gravel roads.

The run was ok. It has a lot of zig zagging back and forth, but you get to run by the lake for a portion of the run, and you can see the park on your way back to see how much further you have to run.

Overall, I would rate this race a 7.5 out of 10. The race was well organized, fun, and close to home. If REV 3 would work it out with Sandusky city and the surrounding area to make the bike course roads better, I would definitely do the race again.

Hope this helped,
Scott

Count me in for my first 70.3 distance.  Can anyone speak to what are the best places to stay?  Is it worth it to stay "inside" the park at the Breakers?  Thanks for any insight.

I stayed at breakers last year and it was nice. They ran a special discount for athletes. You should contact REV3 and the breakers hotel and see if they are going to do that again. Good luck. I'll see you at the training days.

I stayed off site (bout 8-10 min away) and had a efficiency suite (fridge stove etc) for less money that the Breakers folks I knew. One couple that I knew stayed there left beacuse they were put in one of the old rooms and she had some sort of allergy attack and couldnt stand the smell/mold/dust whatever. Since you have to drop off your bike the night before in transition all you have to show up with is your running gear and wetsuit. All the resturants were by my hotel as well. I will probably do the race again and I will probably stay off site again.

If you stay in the Breakers, ask for a room in the newer sections.  The Sandcastle Suites, is also on site and only slightly more than the Breakers and has nicer rooms.  It's a short walk from the Breakers, and still close to everything.
