I did the Nyack ride for the first time, where I had to ride over the George Washington bridge. Very scary experience, very narrow with 90degree turns. I walked a lot of that part, but before that, I tried making a tough turn & fell. Then I did it again! My knee is swollen.
I am such a nervous nelly. I don't like riding through red lights & competing with traffic. How do you do it??? I live in NYC, and the cabs/buses and cars win.

I fell twice today too!! Once getting off my bike at the turnaround, and once getting back on after the turnaround right after I fell the first time. Pretty nasty bruises too.

I ride on a levee though, I too nervous to compete with cars just yet.

Hey, I fell on the levee too a couple weeks ago.  Lost my head when coming to a stop and forgot to clip out.  Fell right over and clipped out on the way down...how convenient!  Hope both of you are okay!

Biking in NYC is like war time biking.

I'll live. I usually unclip my right foot and stand up on my left foot out of the saddle while still clipped in with that foot. and I had my right foot unclipped and my body just would not stand and there was a person stopped in front of me so I had to stop. I guess my body was just tired and did not want to listen to my mind. My mind sure showed my body who was boss though,  I toppled right over.

Geez.. A cab in NY, or a bike? Tough decision.. Both sound crazy as hell.. Hope the wounds heal quickly.

I live in Seattle, which I am sure is a bike-friendly paradise compared to (at least my experience) of NYC traffic. I am a cycling newbie and one thing I discovered is that the local bike club has a series of classes on urban riding techniques (both classroom and "on the road"). I was all signed up for this, but got a horrible case of bronchitis and had to cancel. I just mention it in case there is something similar in NYC that might be helpful in dealing with traffic. Hope your knee feels better soon!

On Thursday I fell three times on a ride...I totally sympthasize! And I totally tipped over right next to a line of cars, too. My pride is still hurting. I am having a hard time balancing (evidently) while unclipping, and I also get my feet confused and forget what foot I've unclipped and need to lean into. It sounds so dumb. oh well. Good luck and take it easy!

at least I don't feel so bad now! I will definitely look into a bike handling clinic in NYC.

I fell too! Went into a hairpin turn (on a trail junction) too fast and fell on my left knee, again.
