Subject: Surrey BC, Thinking about first triathlon...gulp!

Hi folks. I'm 50 years old and have spent the last year coming back from a heart problem -- ended up with a permanent pacemaker!

After 7 months off work have slowly slowly worked way back to some level of fitness and can now reasonably comfortably do a slow 5K (around 30 min). Am also doing some endurance (uphill) work on the treadmill and working on the stationary bike. Sadly I work 12 hour shifts (including nights) so I can only get to train on days off (usually 4 on, 5 off).

I have set my sights on doing the 2012 Delta Triathlon (my first!) and would appreciate some tips on:

1: What sort of training I should be doing

2: Whether there's any local training groups / clubs -- I use North Surrey Rec facility

3: If anyone's interested in keeping in touch and being an online mentor of sorts

Hi David

Welcome! I am a 'newb' too, as  I have not yet entered an event, but have been hanging out here on BT for a while (while getting back into shape). I posted a similar info request a year or two back and have included the link.

I hope this info helps. BT has been a great resource for me, both for info and for a supportive community. I moved to Langley last year, but was in Guildford prior. I loved running in Green Timbers forest.
