Pre-race routine:

Fri-My pre-race routine started the night before the race. I picked up my race packet at 4 PM and then swam the course. Got home and put everything together and into the van (except my bike and wetsuit) then set my alarm for 5:50 AM and tried to sleep.
Sat-Woke up to the sound of a car driving on very wet pavement. Not really a surprise. Put on my trisuit and discovered that the zipper was broken. So I broke race rule "Don't try anything new in a race" and put on my brand new, unworn tri-shorts and tri-top. When I went out my bedroom door, I found a sweet note from my son David on the floor that said "Good luck, we love you, p.s. wet suit" (I had left a few notes around to remind myself to grab my wetsuit which I had hung to dry). I ate a bowl of steel-cut oatmeal, a banana, and drank a cup of coffee. I loaded my bike and wetsuit and hit the road. I arrived at the race site at 7 AM and set up, suited up, and headed to the lake for a warm-up swim.
Event warmup:

Did a warm-up swim, then a man sang the National Anthem exceptionally well, Mary Meyer knows how to motivate! She gave a very heartfelt talk to all the racers.
All this happened in the pouring rain :)

Comments:

stopped on lap 2 to pick up someone's sunglasses on the road, my good deed, and then realized they did not fit in my bento box. I put them in my jacket pocket.

slowed on the corners/turns; I haven't been riding in the rain so I was not taking any chances of riding beyond my abilities.

6/19
What would you do differently?:

Zip my jacket pocket. When I finished the glasses were not there. No good deed goes unpunished.

Hill repeats during training.
