Sunny
Total Time = 1h 43m 30s
Overall Rank = 298/371
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 122/165
Pre-race routine:

1/2 Bagel with Peanut Butter.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 15m 8s
  • 533 meters
  • 02m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my first open water swim. I found it hard to keep a good stroke and very difficult to sight.
What would you do differently?:

Practice open water swimming. I had practiced the day before, but I need to practice more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

I had a hard time getting my feet into my pedals.
What would you do differently?:

I would practice putting my feet in my pedals while just standing over the bar, not sitting on the seat.
Bike
  • 48m 21s
  • 11.9 miles
  • 14.77 mile/hr
Comments:

I attempted to take a gel on the bike, but dropped it on the ground. I almost went back to get it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice taking a gel on the bike. Ride hills more often.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

I don't have clipless pedals, so I already had on my running shoes. However, I almost forgot to take off my cycling gloves. I had trouble putting on my visor while running.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my visor is set at the correct size.
Run
  • 35m 25s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked for 6 minutes of the run. I wish I had run the whole course.
What would you do differently?:

I will push myself harder both during practice and racing. I need to work on running intervals by running moderately hard, then running easy. I should bring my run to a jog instead of a walk when I need a little recovery.
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching. Lots of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience in open water and not pushing myself hard enough on the run.

Yeah Katie!!  Way to go on the tri.  I see bricks in our future and more runs.

Random tip- one thing that has helped me get faster is to do some runs of really varying distances- like 2 mile quicker run, but a 4 mile at what I think is more realistically my race pace.

Congrats again!  Conquering your first OWS must feel good!
