I've been reading about promises to bring this new product out for a few years now. Put off buying a Powertap just because the idea of a sub $1,000 option using my favorite Speedplay pedals and being able to use it easily with both training and racing wheels was very desirable. After going without so long I have come to the point I really don't want the extra hassle of a power meter. I have enjoyed this years IM training more than my last two partially due to using less technology and enjoying the journey instead of the technology. Maybe get interested again if the price point comes down and it is a proven product.

It will be interesting to see if anyone replaces there Powertap with one.  It might drive the used market prices down faster than the new.

I'd like to see the specs, but truly until the ability to capture each pedal independently (at a much higher rate than 1Hz) is included I don't see any reason to switch.  Getting a true ability to look at power output of each leg through a pedal stroke would be quite a step forward.  Other than that I don't see the excitement about this.

For what it can give me, way too expensive. I'll go with heart rate cadence and pe thanks.

Done. They did mention that with the new release of the EDGE unit (coming soon) it will capture Left & Right leg power at 1sec intervals as well. It's supposed to do TSS and Intensity too.

However, the older units (310xt) will just get raw power.

So, it has promise, but then again, at that cost, it's going to be VERY hard for me to justify it.

The other piece that no one has mentioned is that this allows a very mobile solution (switching pedals from bike to bike is quick) without restricting wheel choices.  That's worth something to some people (like me) who have multiple bikes and have specific wheels that are preferred for each bike.
