What i would like to know is how often do people wash their clothes?

I could not IMAGINE not washing them after every workout. I've read here and other places where people go two/three or more workouts without washing and it makes me itch just reading it.

x2.  I run with a girl that I don't think holds the same philosphy and I'm always trying to stay away from her as it makes me want to gag.

A new poll, just for the stinkies and those who hate us, I mean them

Never heard of Penguin until now either.  Can Penguin be used in a high efficiency washer?

Andi

If WIN can be used in hi-eff I'm sure Penguin can too. You can use the stuff at something like 50x recommended concentration and it still rinses out.

That said, I used it at HALF concentration (unless I was washing really grody old weeks-balled-up-in-bag slimy stuff) with excellent results.

Sorry.  I'm just hyper sensitive to smells when running.

With a new born, a 4 year old with really sensitive skin and an adult with mildly sensitive skin (the wife) we've switched to using Dreft (the baby detergent) or a generic version for all of our washing.

My tech clothes go in the machine with all the other clothes, but get air dried. Usually. Occasionally they get missed and end up in the drier, but that is the exception.

What I have found to be the key to keeping funk at bay is, unless they go directly into the washer and get washed, I hang up all my clothes to dry. Even if I plan to wash them before the next wearing*. If they aren't getting washed immediately, they get hung up to dry.

On the rare occasion that I dump sweaty clothes down the shoot with the intention of starting laundry immediately, only to not get to it for several days, the funk is impressive.

*As established in the other thread, I do not wash after every wearing. I don't think tech clothes last as long if washed every time, and I don't like spending money. Plus, why do I need to put on freshly washed clothes when I'm going to be a sweaty mess 10 minutes after putting them on?

Tide Fitness (w/ Febreeze maybe -- I forget), cold water, put in dryer. I have washed all my clothes that way for years (different detergents throughout the years). The dryer doesn't seem to ruin clothes. I have cycling shorts that went through the washer and dryer once a week for 5 years before they got to the point they needed to be retired. No exaggeration. I have others that have only lasted 2 or 3 years, though.

Tops and bottoms get hung in the garage immediately after a workout.  Socks get dumped on the garage floor next to them. Towels get hung.

Wash everything with a little bit of vinegar and detergent.  Spot clean some of the stuff due to neck stains, etc.

Most items get air dried with the exception of socks.  Pretty much everything else gets hung up to dry.

enjoy,

Duane

I wait until the clothes start crawling away by themselves.

then I take them down to the river and beat them with a rock.

-actually, I just toss them in the washing machine.  cycling shorts get the hang-dry treatment, but everything else seems pretty tough.  I'm still trying to wear out my 3 year old running shorts.

I put clothes in a hamper.

After a few days I get them back clean.

What happens in between is a Great Mystery.

Could be magic. Could be Creature the House Elf. I refuse to speculate.

I wash and dry them the same way I wash and dry the rest of my clothes. The whole "tech fabric magic properties" thing never really worked for me, anyway. I sweat the same in cotton, and still wear cotton socks and shirts (hard to find the latter though these days).

In winter, I tend to wear the clothes more often. In summer, I'll don the same clothes in the same day, and occasionally more often depending on weather and distance. But, I run by myself, so no one complains what I smell like.

I think I might try this penguin stuff.  Since I moved to Florida the humidity is killing all my towels.  Even the ones that hang in the bathroom are starting to smell like mildew!  Bleaching them seems to be only a temporary solution.  I'll try anything!

Finding Penguin wash here in Indonesia has been a Godsend. It's nearly impossible to dry clothes, and when you hang them up or fold them up and put them away, even if they are dry, they get damp real quick again and mildew.
