My stuff stinks way too much to wear again.  I hang everything in the garage as soon as I finish or when I get home.  EVERYTHING goes into the laundry, bike gloves, Road ID, hats, etc.

I could possibly wear a pair a shorts twice but that is about it.  And that is only because I wear compression under ware under the shorts.   Now, I rarely ever wash my swim jammers though.  Always wear them when I shower after the swim and hang to dry.  I do eventually wash them once in a while.  But they don't stink - honest

As it is we put vinegar in the wash just to get rid of the smell.  Otherwise my clothes would still smell when they came out.  So between my wife and I we get a very full load come Friday.

I've not been doing this long enough to have built up a huge clothing collection.

  • Clothing:
    • I have 2 pair of running shorts
    • I have 2 swim suits.
    • I have one pair of bike shorts
    • I have one pair of tri shorts
  • Workouts
    • I can run as often as twice a day
    • I swim at least 3 times a week
    • I bike 2-4 times a week. (should be more).
  • Laundry
    • I do laundry once, maybe twice a week.

You can do the laudry math.

Sometimes I wash my car after putting my workout clothes in there.  Seriously in the summer, I leave the hatch open over night to clear the funk.

YES, I wash my kit every time.

There really should be no other options than #1.

For those who wear multiple times, do you wear your underwear, socks, bras, undershirts, pantyhose, etc. multiple times as well?  I'm referring to your regular stuff.  Do you get home from work and peel off your dress socks, fold 'em up, and put 'em back in your dresser draw for tomorrow?  I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm really curious.

I think summa y'all are just stinky people.

Another thought: I'm pretty much freshly washed, ocean'ed or pool'ed ALL of the time. (not that I was in LA, but still) My clothes just aren't sticky or stinky after one wearing even if I soak them. Sweat's real clean too.

P.S. So is the pee, apparently, but yes ... it gets washed if I pee in it. Except for the swimsuits, since they get rinsed effectively right away, and then again in tap water afterward.

Since I am being a gym bunny for the most part right now, I have one spin outfit (tri shorts and a running tank) and one strength training outfit (knee-length running tights and a yoga tank top) that I wash once a week. After the gym, I lay them out on my back seat to air out/dry during the day (yes, on strength training days, if you peek in my backseat, good chance you'll see a thong. THE HORROR!) I find as long as my stuff airs out, there's not any stink until it's time to wash, and even then it's not really offensive... I can just tell the stuff's been washed.

Swimsuits, I rinse and might put in a sink with some chlorine shampoo every week or so, but I never really "wash" it.

I wear a totally different outfit for my Sunday outdoor longish bike ride- that stuff stinks to high heaven after just one wearing. If you've ever heard someone talking about "the stench of fear"... yeah... no way I could wear something I wore to cycle outdoors more than once. It REEKS!

What's a dress sock?

But to answer your question: yes. Not so much here in the tropics, and no, I hang them over or on something to differentiate them from the really clean clothes, but for example, I'll wear jeans nearly infinitely, unless I had to wipe my sticky hands on them or a dog snotted on them or something.

Depends on the item and the expectation for it.  As in the nicer it is, the nicer the event is, so the higher the expectations of being clean and neat.  If I put on a t-shirt or pair of jeans to only go to the grocery store (then remove when I'm back home), I'm not throwing it into the dirty pile.

PowerPoint? Really?

Visio or nothing.

Bonus points if you use swim lanes.

xine2kgts - 2011-08-25 9:32 AM The fact that people may consider wearing workout clothes twice is disgusting lol...I hope everyone washes every time

It really depends on what you're doing!  If all I did was yoga I can wear the shirt again!

Now, when I was in Iraq...ha!  Laundry was a major event, so I tried to make clothes last as long as possible!  At any given time I had workout clothes in all levels of dirty!  I would wear my PT gear to the chow hall or to work first when it was newly clean.  When it got a bit too grungy for work it would get used as light workout clothes.  When it got too dirty for that I would wear it for a major workout like a run and depending on how it smelled after it dried it either got retired to the laundry pile OR got one more big workout out of it.

I could make six PT shirts last 3 weeks!  Without offending anybody!

I now have a drying rack to dry them after workouts.  Then all go in the wash when we have a load.  At least 2-3 loads of "sports" clothing a week.  That includes some sporty-fabric everyday clothes too.  Each load actually gets washed twice right in a row.

My husband just said that we need to move the drying rack to the back porch instead of in the other bathroom because of smell.  So, no, I am not about to wear workout gear more than once.

I don't have a huge supply of gear; 3 or 4 pairs of running shorts, 2 pairs of cycling shorts (one tri shorts), couple cycling/tri tops, tons of socks.  I try my best to wash everything after one use but sometimes it gets missed and I'll end up having to recycle a piece here and there.  Usually it's on the bike as my clothing supply there is limited and I try to ride 4-5 times a week.  Run is pretty easy as I never wear a shirt and have more than a few pairs of shorts.

Never wash the swim jammers.  They go into the shower with me, rinsed off and then hung over the rear seat headrest in the SUV to dry for the next day.

Socks, underwear and undershirts, no, I don't re-wear. I'll sometimes even change my undershirt mid day if I'm slogging around in my dressier work clothes in mid summer. If it wasn't frowned upon to change in parking garages, I'd probably put on fresh underwear in those circumstances as well.

But the difference is 10 minutes after putting on workout clothes, I'm going to be a hot mess anyway and will feel equally as nasty regardless of having freshly laundered clothes or not at the start.

As astounded as the germ-a-phobes are that people would wear clothes more than once, I'm equally as astounded that people would put clothes through two wash cycles in a row. What a waste of water and electricity.

I never wear underwear twice.  Now, I've been known to put on a fresh pair in the morning, and not get around to taking a shower until noon the next day...so that's 30-ish hours of wearing that pair.  Does that count?

Regular bras get washed once a week.

I wear flight suits to work (they are like jump suits).  EVERYONE I know wears a flight suit for at LEAST a week before switching it out.  That's 4 days of wear.  Kind of like the jeans examples from earlier.  Under the flight suit you wear a t-shirt.  This gets worn all week too.  Same t-shirt.  Ditto on the boot socks.  I wear the same pair of socks all week.  I do take them off at the end of the day and drape them over the boots to put on the next morning.  My feet don't smell and I don't smell.

I see it this way...generally speaking I am putting these clean clothes onto a clean body and not sweating in them.  Why can't they be worn a few times?  Underwear (not the bra) is the main exception.  Those generally DO smell a bit even after one wearing, so they need to be swapped out daily.

I never wash my swimsuit.  Otherwise, I was after every workout.

HOWEVER.  There has been the rare occasion that I have reworn shorts for a run outside (to protect anyone's noses!) if I was behind on my laundry.  I like my shorts with pockets to put my keys in, so if none of them are clean, I will wear the least stinky for a run (again, outside).  But that happens maybe twice a year?

I will say that I have had the distinct pleasure of wearing the same basic outfit (changing socks and undershirt every 2-3 days or so, didn't wear underwear) for over two weeks straight. In the woods of southern Virginia (Blackstone area). In late July. With no showers. After that, I don't mind wearing the same workout clothes more than once.

I wear bras a whole lot of times. I wear tights (essentially socks) 3 or 4 times (depending on what shoes I wear with them). I wear button-down shirts at least twice so long as they've not gotten schmutz on them or anything. Jeans I wear until the butt sags (or something irretrievably messy happens to them.) Dresses, I wear 3-4 times.

I don't roll around in the mud. I shower/deo/antiperspirant before I put my clothes on. I don't work in high finance nor do I have a coke habit or nervous condition that means I sweat buckets. I live in San Francisco where it's rarely above "mild." I really see no reason to put something through the wash every time I wear (except undies I've worn all day.) For one, it makes my mostly-black wardrobe fade faster and kills fit/elastic/fabric texture, etc.  For another, I find the overwhelming waft of detergent/fabric softener way more annoying than plain 'ol well-worn clothing smell.
