1)  What's the best Sufferfest vid?

2)  Which one would be best to ride before a 12 work shift?  (a shorter one perhaps?)

I'm training for HIM in Oct and start 6/12hr shifts next week followed by more hellish scheduling.

I really like Downward Spiral.  I think most of the videos are 60 min, but there is one that is 45.  Fight club and local hero are also good.

My favorite is Fight Club, followed by Local Hero.

Their shortest one, Revolver, is brutal.  16x1m all out with 1m rbi.  It leaves me in a mess more than any of the other videos.

These videos look very interesting. It looks like there are various races that are stiched together for a video. What is the training format like, do you just try to ride, chase, etc., or do they pop-up a rate and a duration on the screen?

It's pretty straightforward - they tell you the workout (in text), then as the intervals come up (anywhere from 1min-20min) they'll sound a 'bang' and you're off. In the middle of the intervals, they will often pop up text like 'SPRINT - 9/10!' or 'Ease off - 6/10'. The workouts are tough.

I actually slightly prefer Spinervals because I end up riding so hard on both that I can't even see the screen and having Coach Troy yelling in your ear is helpful, especially with his time countdowns (no verbal cues on Sufferfest), but I do both about equally.

I thought the cycling-specific video would help, but I'm neutral on it. It's simply not that exciting for me to see random closeups of pro riders out of context. I'm pretty sure I could go as hard seeing athletes of any sport working hard.

I like revolver for its short intervals, it is in line with my crit training. There is a new one comming out this october, I think you can see a teaser on Youtube,"A Very Dark Place".

Here is a chart:

I agree wholeheartedly with Revolver as 11/10.

I was mentally prepared for death with 15 x 1 minute intervals as the prescribed workout plan at the start of the video. Really hammered it to near death on #15.

Then I was forced to take it to a whole nother level...

Awesome.

Funny this thread would come up, just did my first video yesterday, Local Hero, it did not disappoint.

It is really easy to get into it with all the visual cues and footage.  I'm still trying to dial in what my 7-8-9-10 efforts are, but when it says 9 or 10 I pretty much go near all out and bury myself.

Buckets of sweat were poured.  I got all of the vids, so looking forward to the others after my legs recover from the beat down yesterday!

I just ordered the full set, hope to try my first one tonight. I've watched bits of all of them, just to see what they are like and I am pumped to try them out.

I decided to go with revolver tonight. Made it through 10 of the 15 "revolutions". As a relative beginner, this was plenty. WitI need to find a better setup where I can see the computer better. Won't be too hard just need to clear a little more apace. Looking forward to some others and trying them on the hotel stationary bike using my phone next week. I just hopey legs aren't shot for hockey tomorrow night.

I just did my first one this AM and thought it was great. I ended up going with "The Hunted" for the first one, and I liked it. Time went by quickly, although I felt abused at the end .  Good cues during the video, and some fun/motivational moments as well. I recommend it! I'm likely to get a couple others in the near furture, maybe downward spiral and fight club.

One thing I need to figure out is my RPE for the bike, and associated gearing while on the trainer. All in good time.
