I will be racing with this awesome helmet!!!  It matches my green bike!!

Awesome helmet, Abbie. You won't be hard to recognize. So if someone you don't know yells out "Go Abbie!", it'll probably be someone from this thread.

Doing maintanence work on the swim and run since I am fucusing on the bike as I will be riding across the US (in a relay format ).  I will be doing aprox 130 miles/day for 10 days straight from San Francisco  to Boston starting on Jun 24 rasing money and awareness for Childhood cancer.  after I come back, it will leave me 7 weeks to ramp up my running and swimming for IM Canada. if any of you live close to our route, come out say hi.  My shift is 4 am to 12 noon and I think we are 8 riders on my shift

I am a little concerned about the run but it is  what it is. i am only doing 7 miles/2 a week until I come back from Boston

Hope everyone's training is going well.

Got the first Century ride done over the weekend with a short 1 mile brick run.  've heard and read that people often feel great during the first 5-6 miles of the run off the bike....  Ummh...Yeah...can't say I felt that one Tongue out

Hard to believe we are just a little over 3 months

Wow!  That sounds like it will be an amazing experience!  I'd love to do that someday.  Have you ever watched the movie Bicycle Dreams?  It's about the Ride Across AMerica, and is completely fascinating/heartbreaking/inspiring.  Highly recommended.

As far as my training... I've been ramping up the bike the last week or two.  I'm coming off of the Boston Marathon a few weeks ago and my recovery is coming along much faster than anticipated.  The day was hot so I took it easy to begin with, which ended up really saving my legs.  Good for Canada training, not so good for my PR plan.  Ah well, there will be other marathons!

After my first century ride I could barely THINK about running, let alone attempt it.  It gets sooo much easier, and during the race the adrenaline rush will carry you a long way.  I definitely started off the bike going at least a minute per mile faster than my plan.  I had to really try to slow myself down I felt so good!

If any of you are still looking for a place to stay, keep checking. I had a back up plan when I did it the first time in '08 but in late spring, like about now, I spotted a note about a cancellation at the Slumber Lodge and got in there. That one is a bit more expensive because you could likely throw a rock across the finish line from the front of the buildings. It was great for my wife though since she couldn't walk far. Anyway, there are always last minute changes that leave rooms open, so if you're looking for a better spot keep looking. Good luck everyone!

How's everyone's training going?  I'm starting to get into some longer stuff now.  This weekend is a 4 hour bike/40 minute run brick Saturday, then a 2 hour run/1.5 hour ride Sunday, followed by a hilly metric century ride Monday (Memorial Day).  I'm tired just thinking about it!

Bonking and slipped discs, oh my!  Hope you two recover well.  The bonking at least can be a good lesson on how hard to push.  The slipped disc, well that just plain sucks.  Is it painful to be in aero?

Love that helmet!  I actually saw someone on my ride the other day with the same one.  Made me smile

Anyone racing in Victoria this weekend?  I hope it's going to be a great tune-up for Canada!

What are the chances for online registration for 2013?  Or should I say: How long did it take to sell out for 2012?  Or should I just plan on going there for volunteer work this year?

Thanks,

Ed

If you can afford to go down and volunteer the year prior it's SO worth it to get an idea of the terrain, the atmosphere and just be a part of it. That being said, if you're on the ball for online registration you should be fine. I think having Lake Tahoe on the west coast will also take away some of the registrants from IMC unfortunately..

It went online for a few days after.

I thought it was Tuesday or Wednesday before it sold out.  And that was with the popularity of this year being the '30th anniversary.'

I'd rather have them add more races than increase the field size of the existing ones, though.  Mont Tremblant was sorely needed and Lake Tahoe will be a big draw simply because of all the triathletes in California.  I'm sure Canada will still sell out but there will be some more breathing room with registration.

True enough. It was near last year to be part of the biggest mass swim start in IM history, but a little extra breathing room would be nice.
