Pre-race routine:

Got up about 6. Had 2 whole wheat mini bagels with pb&j and some coffee. Got my stuff together. aired my tires. loaded up and got to the venue about 8. We camped right there and the campground was very nice. It was great to be so close.
Event warmup:

Got my transition set up. Got ready for the swim. Waded a bit to feel the water and waited. I was in the first wave which I liked as there was less waiting around in my wetsuit feeling nervous.
Swim
  • 18m 48s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time in a shorty suit. It seemed to work ok. I liked the freedom of movement in my arms. The neck chafed my on the back of my neck though.
What would you do differently?:

Sight a little more. I seemed to have to correct a little more than I liked.
Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

an ok transition but a little slow. Everything was damp and it was cold. I was going to put on long sleeve shirt but I couldn't get my arm in so I went with the T.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 1h 03m 57s

Comments:

Had a pretty good bike overall. Felt pretty strong. Rode pretty hard but wanted to save something for the run too. caught and passed a couple guys which felt good. They passed me on the run but thats ok.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

pretty good overall here for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 00m 15s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is not really my strong suit to begin with but considering the course and the fact this was my first olympic distance race, I was happy with the result. I felt strong throughout and ran even the nastiest hills, and there were some really good hills.
What would you do differently?:

keep training!!
Post race
Warm down:

Considering the conditions, it didn't take long to cool off. Had some snacks at the food tent and hung out with my family. It was still sprinkling the whole time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The weather was a factor, but overall I felt good throughout.

Event comments:

This outfit always puts on a good event! Well run, good snacks afterwards, a raffle and awards. I would recommend any of their events.

Course: Out & back on trails through the woods. There was grass, rutted trails, gravel trails, two track road, and some stairs. It was cool and wet. The trails were very hilly and steep in areas. I imagine this was more an xterra type run course. They announced afterwards the run climbed a total of 2000 feet. Of course it was up and down so there were some faster shops but it was very challenging. Overall it was a fun run course.
