Ok, so my first race this year was wetsuit legal.  One other was ... but no one thought it would be till race morning (well one guy was suited up).

My next race at the end of the month MIGHT be wetsuit legal, and the first one next year on April 1st (a HIM) probably will be.

I rented one for the first race and it worked ok, but if I'm doing a HIM I'd probably like to swim in it a few times before the race.

But, considering that the majority of my season is neophrene free I don't want to make a huge investment.  Of course, I might travel for some future races, but I don't have those planned yet.

I'm sold on sleeves vs sleveless...  But I'm not sure what the best option is beyond that.

Xterra has an option for 199, I've found some EBAY options such as a Zoot for 179: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2011-Mens-Zoot-Flash-Triathlon-Wetsuit-SALE-NOW-SAVE-20-/170702720067?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item6d70b06259

And a QR for 169 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-2011-Quintana-Roo-UltraFull-Triathlon-Wetsuit-Mens-Small-Save-50-Now-/170628198655?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ba3bb0ff

But I don't know anything about them.

So what do you recommend for a southern based Tri addict?

I bought my Xterra Vortex sleeveless for something like $149 shipped (on sale) for Firethorne last October. Used it again at Kemah. My 2 summer races were non-wetsuit. Next month I'll use it at Oil Man, and it will have paid for itself vs a rental. Plus it's mine and I can practice in it whenever. I can't afford to race more often, but if I could the wetsuit would certainly get more use.

There are better wetsuits out there, and you might find a better deal, but Xterra had the best deals when I was shopping, and I have no complaints about the wetsuit.

I have a Xterra Vortex 3 sleeveless that I have only used maybe 5 times. It's looks pretty much new. Size XL. I was about to put it up on the classifieds. Great wetsuit, I have just shrunk out of it.

I know you said you wanted a full sleeve, but if you are interested PM me.

I've been pretty satisfied with my sleeveless.  It's also an xterra vortex.  It looks like you and I frequent similar race venues.

You don't have to spend a lot to get a decent wetsuit. OTOH, the difference between a top-of-the-line one and a entry-level one is a few hundred dollars. That's not a lot of money. Therefore, I've decided to give the top-of-the-line a try this upcoming season and see if I can tell a difference.

This is a good time of year to buy a wetsuit too. The place I get mine tends to put last years on sale starting in Oct. so they can clear out inventory in anticipation of the 2012's coming in come January. So as soon as someone has a shopping party (another 20% off), I'm so there!
